Any spiritual, but non religious, people?
Personally, I don't believe in organized religion. My beliefs and my faith are very personal and the idea of walking into a specific building on a specific day to prove my beliefs just doesn't sit well in my brain. Neither does the concept of trying to "define" my beliefs to fit into a one size fits all box.
I'm very spiritual and I do believe in a higher power, but I'm not Christian.
I am, however, facinated by religion and I love to study all of the different ones out there....
Anyone else?~Jessica

That sounds like me. I have a strong belief in God, but also do not belong to any organized religions for many reasons. I was raised protestant but even though I firmly believe in God, I don't necessarily believe in Jesus per se. Have you ever gone to Beliefnet? They have an interesting quiz that you can take to find out what religion you are most aligned with. My top percentage comes out as Judaism....hmmm

Its been several years since I've taken that quiz, I don't remember what it said I was most closely aligned to....

Jessica, I could say my response is almost exactly like your post.
I am 'technically' Catholic, as in that's where I was married and our kids went to Cath. schools. I would say I'm Christian, but not in the strict sense (not sure if he died for our sins)---it's just that I think the words of Christ and his philosophy are great. And I believe in a higher power, and have a close relationship to him, in my own way. Haven't been to church in years.
I think people are divided by the 'us vs. them' thinking that is often (from what I've seen) put out there by the really REALLY religious who think if you don't believe EVERYTHING that they believe (in other words think for yourself) or don't follow the church's set of rules, that you are BAD.
If more Christians followed the most important thing Christ had to say (and yes he SAID it was the most important thing) ----to love thy neighbor as thy self (or the Golden rule--do unto others......) I might be back in church. Might. I try to live by loving kindness and acceptance.

This is more me these days. I totally believe in God but not religion. I was raised Catholic and even tried Wicca but nothing seems to fit. All religion is man made. God is so much more bigger than a book of rules and a building to pray in for me.

I don't follow an "organized" religion either. I used to be Catholic but never followed their doctrine or rules. So, I found it best (so did my husband) to just belong to a Christian based church.
I find that people get the "religion" thing confused sometimes. I'm not religious...I'm faithful and I'm a believer. I belong to an independent bible believing church but it does not follow a "religion." We follow Jesus.

Raised Lutheran and allowed to question all along. I've looked into/at many religions and just don't fit a "mold" so to speak. I believe in treating others well and living so as not to have to look back on what I've done with shame.
I really enjoy discussing religion but get frustrated when the answer is "because" without a reason. I think I drive some people nuts with it, lol.
I don't attend services anywhere, I believe that God doesn't keep score on attendance

I am not a big fan of organized religion for myself. We, as a family "belive." We believe in the power of doing right and treating others with respect. We beleive in gratitude and that there is a universe or higher power out there to be grateful to. My kids have been raised to question whether or not something feels true to them, and therein lies our philosophy.

I have always been afraid to say those words out
loud other than to my husband. Most of my family
(especially my mother) are very religious and
participate all week long.
I agree with you. My feelings are the same.
What I'm seeing in the organized religious
community is turning me off. Not all, but
too many.Last edited by C@rol; 01-28-2008 at 03:16 PM.
" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."

I know how you feel. I was raised non-denominational (protestant). I believe there is a God...a Higher Power, but that no one religion has the exact truth. They were written by man-we make mistakes...ans we know through the ages that alot of word has been changed. A lot of the basics that are taught are the same in all religions...treat your parents w respect, don't kill, treat others as you would wish to be etc...I try to treat others as I would like myself to be treated. I'm a pretty easy going person. My mother was very christian growing up and she still is now, but she's not as strict as she was. She had issues w me trying to date a catholic and I was in highschool. My ex husband and I thought the same way. A lot of my friends do,but I have friends of many different religions. I just don't condone any religion that brings harm to others. My fiance is Druid-and I mean in the traditional he went to Scotland and Ireland learning under a mentor. Our roomate is Wiccan. My one friends that I've known since I was 16+ think like I do,but for some reason have issues w them. My family-as in my aunt and grandma are very interesting. My aunt found God only within the last 5 years...she was your typical blacksheep...getting into all sorts of trouble. She actually asked me if I would become part of his religion when we married(like if it was automatic or something). My grandma thinks he's different, but I just rem she's from a different generation.

I belive there is a God but don't belong to any specific church I have too many unanswered questions that nobody can answer. God doesn't care where you worship just that you believe.

but i am not religious i just say i do religous things...i believe a lot of everything guess you could say i am a free-spirit!
i dont follow what people say i should do..i do what i feel is right.,.
if i want to pray the rosery i will...
if i want to take communion i will...
i see it VERY different than the church does..
one of the priests i know from one of the roman catholic church i go to... cant understand why i wont become catholic as i am there a lot! he doesnt say that to my face but i have heard it said about me to one of the people that work in the church... and people EVEN treat me different to
i love God just like the rest of them why in the heck does it matter if i become catholic or baptist or whatever? it sounds like a club.... i accept all faiths... i really like buddism to...
but i just cant believe all one thing cuz there is a lot i disagree with..so i walk my own path! and to heck what others say!
