I've not been terribly good about posting. Tonight I finish up the last of last week's cooking. I have a bare refrigerator, so when I'm off Mon or Tue, I have to cook whether I want to or not.

This coming week will be forward and back. There are some things I want at Kroger's buy 10/get $5 off sale, items for both pantry and freezer. Also I want to look at the pantry and see where the holes are that need to be filled. I'll work on doing some of that in Feb. I'm earmarking some of my tax refund for it. But I am still working on using up the things I have a lot of in the pantry and freezer. By the end of the month, the pantry may not be much reduced, but it should be better balanced. I'll keep using meats from the freezer.

And it is really going slow for me. Made a little more progress in last couple days BUT.....discovered my squash is starting to go bad in my garage due to our warmer than normal winter so have to get it in the freezer THIS WEEK! Have acorn and butter nut to freeze from my garden last summer! Plus yummy seeds to bake!

But I will be using the bananas in the freezer to make a batch of banana nut butter. Also using some of my apples to make a new recipe called Apple Pie in a Jar. Neither of which go back in the freezer......thank god!

One step forward - two back!!

I hope this challenge is continued into Feb. because I am nowhere near finished. I have continued to use items, but have lots left. I got out a bag of strawberries yesterday and sprinkled them with sugar to serve as dessert.

This last week I used some chicken and pork chops from the freezer, a can of pineapple (but that was new stock), and soy sauce from a bottle that needs to be finished - or sold as a fine old vintage. Odds and ends of pasta bags.

There were some things I wanted at Kroger, but told myself no. I'll stop Monday and pick up produce, milk (maybe) and perhaps a couple of other things.
