    Angry The clearance rack

I was in large department store the other day.. buying some new underwear
I strolled by the women's section..you know.. on my way out.

I gleaned over to the 'clearance' rack.. 60% off original and then take 40% off. (wouldn't that mean 100% off? I thought to myself)

Anyway... I'm looking at these clothes on the rack... and it occurred to me... THIS STORE HAS NEVER SOLD THESE CLOTHES!
Where do they get this stuff?

Then I got to thinking. I see this ALL the time. Filenes, macy's, Sears, Bob's. Just about everywhere. Has this 'clearance' rack of stuff that has never been for sale there to begin with.

Do the stores import a 'clearance rack' stuff so to attract customers?
Because I had been losing weight faster and having to replace my clothes frequently... so I KNOW those clothes weren't for sale in the winter and spring- I was there.

So, I twirled around to see - what else was on sale and NONE of the good stuff that SHOULD have been on the racks were there.. like Lands End, Levis, stuff like that. What's up with that!?

I've noticed the "crap for sale" racks in all the larger dept. stores. My theory is this "crap" has been on sale for decades and if you have ever looked closely at some of these: glittery, feathered, sequined, beaded, textured items you get the sense that they weren't popular even in the decade they were full priced .

Clearance racks tend to be really hit or miss. And it's usually the miss! I get frustrated at stores like Neiman Marcus Last Call (only been there once- and once was enough) because it's so disorganized and I get too frustrated! And it's still overpriced.

Although I do get a lot of my work clothes from the clearance racks at Ann Taylor Loft, Casual Corner Outlet, etc. They're a little more expensive, but very worth it, especially since people dress up and dress nicely where I work.

I think Kohl's, Penny's, Old Navy and Sears are my favorite clearance shopping stores and usually in that exact order. I am rarely disappointed at Kohl's.
I totally agree. I shop in Buffalo quite a lot (I'm from Canada) and sometimes I get lucky and find beautiful things on the sales rack (especially in Kohl's where I found one of my favourite Liz Claiborne (sp?) tops for $5.00) and other times the stuff is not the greatest. It's hit or miss!

I read somewhere that some stores buy clothes in bulk to sell at clearance. They'll also sometimes ship clothes to "hub" stores where hey have a better chance of being sold.

Whatever's leftover will go to Marshalls/TJ Maxx and the like.

My sister has GREAT luck with clearance racks. I am less patient and therefore, less successful as well.

I love Kohl's and JcPenney clearance. It's probably time to hit the clearance racks again, since the fall/winter clothes are coming out. I'm always buying out of season. But hey, I get nice, new clothes for next to nothing.

I detest digging through clearance racks. So I don't do it. I just buy less clothes, and the ones I do buy are the more basic items that I can mix and match. I buy almost all of my clothes online from Kohls. I know what size I am and I wait until they have their 30% everything codes + free shipping and buy my items then. Works way better for me and I spend less, too.
