Sounds like a good thing, but unfortunately its not accredited. I'm in school right now and if they offered a degree in my field of study and it was accredited and FREE, I'd be all over it. Heck, in that case, I might even change majors.

I'm going to bookmark it and check back - they say they are trying to get accredited but they make no assurance that it will happen, but who knows.

Hopefully they will become accredited soon! Programs like this would greatly improve our society!

    ACCREDITATION

Is University of the People an accredited university?

At present, University of the People is not an accredited institution. The University is in the process of preparing the necessary materials to apply for accreditation from an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. At this time, no assurances can be given as to when, or if, accreditation might be granted.

Hopefully they will become accredited soon! Programs like this would greatly improve our society!

University of the People offers the following four degrees: Associate (A.S.) and Bachelor (B.S.) degrees in Computer Science and Associate (A.S.) and Bachelor (B.S.) degrees in Business Administration.

Please note: Unless and until UoPeople attains accreditation, other academic institutions may refuse to accept UoPeople academic credits on a transfer basis. Whether or not UoPeople credits are accepted for transfer is solely up to the discretion of the receiving institution.

NOT DISSING - but on the topic of accreditation:

Regional accreditation is the only one that 'matters' when trying to transfer credits to another school. Sadly, there are 'accreditations' that are worth less than the paper they are printed on. In fact, scammers 'found' their OWN 'accrediting agencies' just to accredit their scam institutions. Sad, but true.

    Caveat emptor.

Yep. I know three women, one going to Heald, one going to Everest, and one going to U of P. The one going to U of P is getting her associates degree. I don't say anything to them, since they're already paying through the nose for an education that is not accepted everywhere, employers included, and I don't want to make them feel bad. I just shake my head when I think about it. My regionally accredited community college is about a tenth of the cost.

And that University in the OP, if they ever do get regionally accredited, there would be a waiting list a mile long to get in.
