Default So, Sunday was "Profitable" :P

Ok, so Sunday morning, while was asleep, I went out and did some yard saling. I had prepared quite well -- I had some cash, a comfortable outfit on, my sunglasses, and my map of the city. I started driving around my suburban neighborhood, and then I began adventuring on.

The first yard sale I found yielded 4 rolls of cellophane wrapping paper, unopened for $0.25 each (I know where this stuff comes from, and it's $1.00 a roll from the store). The next couple yard sales yielded nothing of any great virtue.

Then... before me loomed... the motherload.

Here in Halifax, Dalhousie University has their annual "Dump and Run" sale, where all the students drop off their goods that they don't want to bring back home with them, and the university student council take them all and put the items in a gigantic gym and hold a huge yard sale indoors. The money all goes to charity and then anything not sold goes to the Big Brothers Big Sisters and Salvation Army programs. Everybody wins.

    TALK ABOUT DEALS!!! My finds:

    1 popcorn popper (no instructions) - $0.75
    1 tiny whisk - $0.05
    1 roll of cellophane - $0.05
    1 clothes rack - $2.00
    1 shoulder bookbag - $1.00
    1 box stationary - $1.00
    3 small gift bags - $0.25

Total = $5.10 (though they didn't charge me the dime, so in essence, the whisk and cellophane were free.)

So of course, after I'd gotten all that stuff, I headed over to the clothing section.

In the three and a half hours I was there, the clothing went from being individually priced, to "Stuff a Garbage Bag" for $20, to "Stuff a Garbage Bag" for $5. By the time I left, I'd stuffed I believe 50 items into a garbage bag, resulting in me paying about $0.10 per clothing item (most, if not all of it, brand name, brand new, gorgeous designer clothes).

I got several skirts, two blazers, numerous tops, dress shirts, dress skirts, a coat for a friend, a cooking apron for and all kinds of beautiful pieces. Becuase there was no where to try things on, I just had to go with my best judgement. I think I only misjudged the sizes on a few items, for the most part everything fits perfectly.

I brought them all home, washed everything well and this morning, I am wearing an ankle length black skirt and a boat-neck black knitted sweater to work. I think I have enough clothes to last me til next year! Spring, summer, fall, winter, it was all there!

On my second trip, they'd also marked down the kitchen items to $0.25 each, so I snagged a cute little pot (for potatoes) and a thermos.

So in total, I spent $11.50 yesterday and made off with a whole new wardrobe.

I've entered the date on my calendar and will DEFINITELY be looking for the same sale next year. Ahhhhh, yard sales. What could possibly be more fun?

WTG!!! You did great and since all the money went to charity, you got great bargains and helped a needy organization also! Kudos to you .

WTG! That's great. People think they get good bargains in dept stores on clearance racks, but they don't know what they're missing until they hit thrift stores and yard sales!
