Naderbug, Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year in the US. The's the Friday after our Thanksgiving and the unofficial kickoff of the Christmas shopping season. There are huge deals, almost all of them early bird specials. Stores open at the buttcrack of dawn, and us looneys stand in line in the cold for HOURS waiting to get in

It's called Black Friday because supposedly it's the day it brings stores out of the red and into the black financially

When I was a store manager we called it "Black Friday" because of the misery it inflicted on every retail worker. Nobody ever, ever got "Black Friday" as an off-day. Never could enjoy Thanksgiving, work all day Wednesday until late setting sale then be back at an absurd hour for the sale. Glad I'm outta retail. No way will I shop that day!

My favorite is Joann's...they always have some spectacular deals. I actually didn't go last year. I didn't feel like getting up at 5:00 to be there at 5:30 LOL

One year I got about 30 yd of flannel because it was 99 cents per yard

Ahhhh, I see. Thanks Heather, for the explanation. I can't believe I've been on the internet for as long as I have and never heard about this. I don't think there's anything like that here in Canada. Here in Nova Scotia we just lifted the ban on Sunday Shopping!
