Default Boy, Did I Hit the Jackpot Yesterday and Today...

First of all, a couple of members put me on to Freecycle. I love it. I picked up two paper grocery bags of cookbooks this morning. Some dated back to '60s. I love 'em. I'll be posting recipes in the cooking section if anyone is interested.

Then I went literally around the block and got a really cute Pooh and Tigger fleece hoodie...another freecycle find. It's looks brand new. My friend's daughter has a b-day coming up in April and will love it.

I then went to what we call the 'Free Store' which is run by a local non-profit agency that helps provides clothing, furniture and housewares at no cost. Anyone is welcome as long as you don't abuse the privilege (sell the stuff you get there). My friend and I came out of there with a large bag and 2 sterlite crates (they were free too) of stuff... 3 stuffed animals (a bunny, a teddy and a small stuffed dog for the dog), 2 new crocheted lap blankets, 2 small locking lid glass canisters, a sweater, a sweatshirt, 2 angel trinket boxes (my friend is going to fill them with candy hearts and give them to his 2 sisters for Valentine's day), a duffel bag, an old purse he's going to use in his van for tools, a small pickling/canning crock, a travel mug, two melamine (ugly turquoise/aqua color) bowls but they'll work good for heating veggies in the microwave and a small container of legos.

Then we found a new Mission Thrift store about 4 blocks from home... everything is 99 cents and under. All clothing is 99 cents, houseware items are 49 or 99 cents, books are 2/25 for softcover and 2/49 for hardcover, shoes are 99 cents, hats/ties/belts are 49 cents. We walked out of there with an electric fry pan (ugly gold but it works) for 99 cents and a baseball hat-shaper-thingie for 49 cents. Who would have guessed a 99 cent thrift store!!

Then in the mail I got a freebie from The Cancer Society... 2 sports water bottles. Yesterday I got a baby bib, a baby cereal sample pack and a coupon. I'll give the baby items to a friend who's expecting in March.

I'm feeling really 'high' on bargains right now!!!

I know that 'High,' and I love it.

But doublecheck on heating melamine in the microwave...I don't think it's safe.

I agree, some plastics are NOT for microwave use.

Awesome finds! I hope I find some things soon. We only have a couple of thrift stores in the area, and I haven't found very many things I need yet.
