lenses for glasses
I just got a new prescription for my glasses and I went to have them filled at Wal-Mart. Yikes! They said the cheapest ones were going to be about $130 and that's only lenses! I have a pretty high prescription but I don't have to have anything special like bifocals. Does anyone know where I might find a better deal? I'm going to call JC Penny because I think they have a sale but I don't know if it will cost any less than WM. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Costco... got mine for about 225 ( both lens) and they had clip sunglasses, scratch resitant coating and the works on that lens stuff.
that was after the eye exam they have an eye dr there, charges 40 for exam.
I went to Sears and all of them...
costco won...
for the best deal...
again !
some very nice frames there but I'm a middle aged "typical white lady" and like things that would reflect the fact I am ( no high fashion glasses for me)
Yeah to Costso !
My glasses with magnetic clip on shades are hot !

I always go to SEARS Optical when they run there $99 specials does not include exam. I can get no line bifocals for $99. Regular glasses are $99 also. This includes frames. The frames have to be in a certain price range otherwise you pay the difference. Hope this helps. JC Penny may have the same deals. Also, you might want to keep the original prescription. That way if some other place has a special you can take advantage of it. At Sears I think the prescription is good for 2 years. Good luck. I hope you find something reasonable!

I usually go to America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses.
They have deal of about $70 for two pair including exams.
If you go there don't ever fall for the $15 special exam, it's a waste of money.

It does cost extra for scratch resistant and maybe special tinting. I don't remember on the tinting since it's been a while.Last edited by jettsmom; 03-21-2008 at 12:56 PM. Reason: need to add something

So you know people who have purchased through this company? The prices are so low, it concerns me.
Thanks for the link. If you seriously know people who have ordered from there and been happy with the result I just may have to try it!
I'm just looking for some lenses to wear around the house. I wear contacts all the time and love them, so I don't need a new fashion statement. I just want to be able to watch TV in the evenings. This place just might be the answer.

I've used Sears & my glasses really last. Not sure they're the cheapest, but I'm happy with the price since I wear mine everyday. I need new glasses now after having these for 4 years or so... feels like I got my moneys worth!

If you have any Lense Crafters or Eye Care One stores in the area you might want to give them a try. They generally have great deals, my lenses cost $59 and I have no line bifocals.

I think i'm going to go ahead and order. for two pairs I will pay about $23. I also looked at their better business bureau reports and there were 59 complaints all of which the company resolved or attempted to resolve. Thats not bad for the past 3 years.

I know a bunch of people who have bought from Zenni Optical and have really liked their glasses. I just got my eyes checked and plan to get myself a few pairs from them.
I wear contacts 99% of the time, but still need glasses so I can FIND my contacts in the morning. lol
That seems really pricey for Walmart lenses, the last time I got glasses there (a year ago) they were only $59 for the light weight poly lenses. My complete pair of glasses was less than $100. I have a pretty strong RX, too.Nicole, Mom of 4 ages 6-16~

Thats just like me, I hardly ever wear my glasses. I know what you mean about WM's prices. I couldn't believe it! The first store said the cheapest lenses would be $140 plus $20 to put them in my old frames. The second WM I checked said it would be $120 and didn't say anything about the additional charge. I have no idea why it went up so much. I also thought it was odd that they had no printed prices anywhere, not posted in the store or on something I could take with me. I don't like that. Zenni sounds like a good solution.

I feel your pain -- I have terribly bad eyesight. My left eye is far worse than my right. I actually have to pay a rediculous amount of money so my glasses don't look like Coke bottles.

Actually, I ordered from Zenni optical last night. As it turns out the friend that we had dinner with last night ordered his glasses from a comparable site and paid only $25 for his. I checked the company out with the Better Business Bureau and I'm comfortable with what I found. I ordered last night, and I got an email back from them asking about the correct prescription strength because I put a wrong number on one of them. I can't wait to get my new glasses! BTW, I paid $23 for two complete pairs of glasses.

Wow, that sounds like such a deal. Please let us know how they are. We are going to order as soon as we can. I can't beleive the prices they have.
I figured even if we have to order 2 pair, if they mess up one pair, its still better prices than anywhere else.
As with us we really haven't heard anything bad about them.
Keep us updated.Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.
