I am going to offer a different opinion. I used to live in an area with 2 Costcos and have moved to an area with none, but can go there when I visit relatives. Whether Costco benefits you or not depends on your situation and diet. We area family of six (five that eat as the baby nurses). I'd have to look long and hard to buy nuts for the price Costco has them. We eats almonds (prob large bag/month), walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, etc and save a couple of hundred dollars a year on these alone. Other things that we buy there are vinegar, roasted red peppers, craisins, raisins, Epsom salts, books for gifts (I got a Gymboree thing for 4.99 that retails for 16.99), some cheeses (not much due to problem with dairy), fruit to go bars, egg whites (~50% less than in stores), almond butter, tires, salsa, fish such as tilapia and haddock (same price or lower, but better quailty than grocery store). I would get other things if we didn't have sensitivities to gluten, soy, processed corn and dairy. Vream and milk are less expensive than elsewhere. We also bought a bike stroller there last year for 1/2 the cost elsewhere. I watch for coupons at Costco and this helps also. Some of the supplements and over the counter meds are cheaper, but you have to be careful which ones. You do have to be careful to know your prices and to ensure you use things up, but it could benefit you. I would check it out if it interests you.

I found that buying at Costco pays for my membership and more. I saved 1/2 on auto insurance, easily 1/2 on my eye glasses. Their meats and bakery products are top quality. I don't buy liquor, but there's a goodly savings there. Block cheese, electronics, major appliances, OTC drugs are all large savings. I bought a Cuisinart griddle & saved about $20.00. Some things like that are not standard items, so you have to catch them when you can.

Their Kirkland brand is very good. 40 lb. of dog foor is $20.00 with NO corn filler. Their Kirkland laundry soap is a Consumers Reports 'Best Buy'.

Yes, you do have to comparison shop. I found that their canned goods are close to what I can get on sale in my area. Vegetables & fruits are higher. Tires, not so much.

Guess you might say I really like Costco. Certainly is hands above Sam's Club (a glorified Wally's world).
I live about 4 hours away from the nearest one so I really have to plan when I go.

    Question

Does anyone here want a bundle of FREE Costco coupons:
    Valid June 1-14?
    (most of them are high-value)

If so, let me know by PM, and I'll send them out to you ASAP at no cost to you.
    Thanks.

Subbu, I also live in the GTA. I compare prices with our local No Frills. I find that when you do a per unit comparison, prices generally do not fair better than No Frills. We have kept our membership for this year but wil most likely not renew again.

I will not be renewing my membership, I thought the little snackstand would be a good place to get a cheap snack out, but they only take cash (?) and they have one of those rip off atms closeby. This is the Dartmouth Crossing Costco, I don't find any of their merchandise compelling enough to purchase, and has been said earlier, they seem to try to closely match what other retailers are selling for. Costco meh, hello Walmart
