I am excited to see this thread
Ohh, not sure quite how long this has been up but I am really glad to see it here.
Have seen a few aussies on the boards but was not aware that we had enough to warrent our own board!
I'll introduce my self.
29 year old public servant from brisbane
We are renting and trying to get a deposit together to buy our first house and also to get married next year.
At the moment I am completely debt free so it is getting a bit easier to put money aside, a year ago when I was drowning in debt and prices were going no where but up I didn't really think that home ownership was ever going to happen fro us, but now I have a much more positive out look.
will try to think of some australia specific tips and get back to you all.

Cheers Froggy

hi there I am dwn under too
we are also renting, however this is after owning two previous homes, our last one I designed and we built though a builder we chose in the outer south east of melbourne. we are now renting because we have no money left, no savings at all and about $45000 debt to sort out. I am not currently working. big heart wrenching confusing situation as I could work but would mean I would be much more stressed and my children would have to be cared for by strangers much more than they are now, and I don't like the idea... but by my not working we are very unlikely to get on top of our debt, and husband works away in the middle of queensland and leaves me home with the boys... so it is all emotionally challenging, I am the frugal one in the family, even if we did have more money I probably would question what we are spending it on... after seeing how quickly we sold up and moved here and had to cut back and down size... and we are managing to do without ... but wondering onthe impact on my kids.... I want to be even more frugal but feel very challenged by the DIY component when I can barely keep on top of the basic day to day as it is... but I am trying and get inspired easily... just need to find more like minded friends locally to chat to about living more simply and doing without in these technologically advancing and menacing times....
