Moving to UK. Any tips?
Hi there,
My DH is British (currently is in UK looking for a job), I am Canadian and looks like I will be joining him in Spetember. Can you please share with me any tips about stores, bargains and deals. I can't count on my DH when it comes to be frugal. If I have to walk just to save a few pennies to buy milk I will, but my husband will just go the the corner store. So you got the idea.

Hi Winner. The best tip I can give you is the website www.moneysavingexpert.com. The forums there are very busy and have all sorts of financial information and deals. The site is down for maintenance until tomorrow evening though.
Here you can print off your own money off coupons, there is a long thread on MSE with information on the latest coupons. some you can keep printing, others are just for one time only. We dont get coupon inserts in the papers like they do in the US.
The main supermarkets are Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys and we also have Aldi and Lidl. Tesco is the closest to me and their coupon policy is to accept one of each kind of coupon, even if you havent bought that item! As long as they stock it you dont need to have bought it.
Hope this helps.

Hello there! I'm Catz from mse, so pleased to have found this site, it is great! Thank you to tiff for pointing it out on mse! I live in the south east of England and try to avoid supermarket shopping but do use sainsburys sometimes and aldi as they are near me. Also shop online with Approved food and goodness direct.

Hi I am british but I have lived in France for eight years , it has become very expensive over here prices have shot up and the exchange rate has shot down . I do most of my shopping in Lidyl and only go to other supermarkets for things they do not stock . In England I shopped in Aldi but I have only been in a French one once and I was appalled the produce was all moldy and the store was really dirty .
we try to make our money go further by growing as many vegetables as we can .

Hello all, I don't know if this thread is still being used, but I'd like to take part and help people out where I can. I live in the UK, mainly shop at Tesco or Morrisons, but tend to follow the bargains. I love our local market and will often walk out of the way to get to it, even though it means lugging home great amounts of meat or veg on the bus!
Hopefully I can help and in turn, get my shopping bill down a bit. I have such difficulty sticking to grocery challenges or budgets that I could do with help finding the bargains
Thanks!

I'm in the East Midlands, Britbunny. Thanks for the welcome, and good to hear the thread is still open for business. I'm trying to buy for a wedding BBQ in addition to my normal weekly shop, so any bargains are gratefully received!

Hi all,
We found ourselves in Waitrose the other day and they've brought out their own budget range called "essentials" and they're pretty good! We bought peppers, tomatoes and a few other things and they tasted great!
There were also loads of reduced things - we got spinach, squash and sweet potato mix, bread, all manner of stuff. So I would say don't rule Waitrose out just because you think it's going to be expensive.
