Yuuuuuumy, I love the sound of the food you took. Although, it's so warm today who wouldn't be enticed by some chilled melon slices?

Well the good news is that the HAL said that we could join the ship for a cruise but they wanted an unbelievable 1,400 euros each for a 7 day cruise.
NO WAY!!!!!!
I was so disappointed that I cried.
We did have a relaxing weekend but it was SO SO HOT on Saturday that it was nicer inside than outside. It was around 30 degrees here.
WAY too hot for me. It was also very sticky.
After doing the grocery shopping for my parents in law, dh and went to the local golf club and had a nice lunch under a parasol and then I had a great nap (must be getting old).
Later on Sat. afternoon we had a small BBQ in the garden.
Our weather broke yesterday morning and it was decidedly fresher outside.
Yesterday afternoon we went into the city and had lunch at a wonderful new (for us) Italian sandwich/salad restaurant and accompanied our son Timothy when he went to buy a new suit for his trip with us this summer.
Dh found a load of DVD's of Midsummer murders/Dalziel and Pascoe for 7 euros each (he collects them) so his day was perfect too.
We also bought 3 new suitcases (also on sale) so all in all we had a great weekend even though it was painful to drive into the city and see the cruise ship that I would have liked to be on, waiting to pick up it's passengers.
This is more or less the view we get when driving into the city

Have a great day everyone!Avril

Hi folks,
Had some not great news today. DH's stepdad went back to the hospital for a scan and all that stuff. The chemo has had mixed results, the tumour is no bigger but it hasn't reduced it either so it's inoperable. They're going to try with another course of chemo in the next couple of months but I think after that there's nothing else they can do.
DH has spoken to his mum and he thinks for the first time she is starting to realise what we have all known since Christmas - that we're in a state where it is palliative care rather than anything else. So that's a tough thing to deal with.
DH has offered to take them anywhere they want to go when his stepdad feels well enough. He has had a couple of e-coli infections recently so that's making him more ill than the cancer just now. But we hope he can get out for a few days out in a couple of months time. But who can say.
Sorry to not be a cheery person today, I'm sure there will be something fun to talk about tomorrow!

As a matter of fact there IS room in the suitcase on the way over - however you would have to find your own way back since our daughter is planning a major shopping spree (she has been saving up, knows her way around there and also where to get the bargains).
She's planning on going to the Apple Store, Nike town, A+F, Barnes and Noble, Old Navy.... and the list goes on.Avril

Thanks DD, I'm fine today.
DH and I tool ourselves off to Ambleside for a meal last night, it was good to get away and have a good drive. We went to Zeffirellis which was as splendid as usual. It was good to get away for a few hours and just have a chat about things without being in the thick of it.
More decorating this weekend! Might venture to the beach for a while if it's sunny like it is at the minute (but if I blink I'm sure it'll turn to rain).
Have a good weekend everyone.

Hi DD,
Yes, that's the one. the same people own another place Fellinis in Ambleside and Yewfield B&B on Hawkshead Hill. We stayed at Yewfield last time we went on holiday and it was really nice. I wasn't really in the right frame of mind for a holiday but the house and gardens were lovely.
All three venues serve only vegetarian food. Fellinis is more "fancy" - Mr Derek calls is "Vegeterranean", Zeffs is more casual, plenty of pizza to choose from. I particularly recommend the sweet potato wedges (served with houmous, mayo, garlic mayo or pomodoro sauce, the garlic bread is yummy, DH loves the pizza and my favourite main is the puy lentil rissole with sage potatoes. It's delicious!
I've never been to the garden centre there, it's very convenient for parking though! We go up there a lot - it's not so far from us really is it. We love Kendal too, there's a really nice deli in the square (next to Caffe Nero) the owner is super nice - but don't let him talk you into trying his hot chilli dressing unless you adore spicy food. It's a scorcher!
I used to love going to the Artisan cafe at Booths in Kendal too, but we have one at the one in Lytham so we can go whenever we like now *yay*. Not that I'm obsessed with food or anything!
Hope you're having a good week. The sun is out, let's hope it stays.
