Frugal Friday, 1/7/11
Happy Friday!!
Whew, what a week! So happy to be at the tail end of it. I woke up stressing about dd and bball. Her coach on the traveling team seems to only bring discouragement to her. Never builds her up, only notices her when she's doing something wrong. Yet really encourages his favorites. I thought she was being overly sensitive until I went to a practice last night. She's right. Sigh. How does one handle that? I gave her the "it's a valuable life lesson to learn that somebody isn't always going to be there to notice your accomplishments" speech. But probably didn't sink in to a 6th grade girl. lol
Sorry had to rant, it's been heavy on my heart this morning. Today is work for me as usual. I didn't get my stuff to Goodwill like I thought I would yesterday, so I plan on loading it up to take today. I also need to pick up a gift card for a family friend's daughter's birthday party this evening. Grrr, I just wanna stay home.
Also dd1 has an ice skating birthday party to attend this evening, as well. Never a dull moment. And to top it off, it rained last night. Should make for some colorful roads today!
Wow, good morning, Debbie Downer!! Sorry, but I feel better!
Thanks for letting me share, and have a wonderful day!

Good morning!

Yay! I am so happy it is Friday! My gut is in knots, I am supposed to hear back today "on the next steps" from a job interview I went to before Christmas. I feel really good about my interview and they have responded to everything (they responded to my thank you letter and to my follow-up phone call :-) which doesn't always happen - especially if they are not interested). On Wednesday, they said they would contact me with the next steps at the end of this week....so....now that is is Friday - I really hope to hear from them!
So, in addition to waiting around for a phone call/email - I need to get some work done for the company I am working contract for. BTW - I think this company has been tipped off by the company I interviewed with (it is a small sustainability-consulting world and everybody knows everybody) because they all of a sudden are motivated to hire me as a full-time employee - with a mtg scheduled for Monday. So either way, I hope to have a full-time job by the end of January -
I just don't know with which company.
Ok, sorry...I had to get all of that off of my chest
So, other than that
I am treating DBF to a nice dinner
at this restaurant he has been wanting try for the past year...because he passed his SE Exam!!! (Structural Engineer) He is all done with exams now for his field (P.E. and S.E.), so I want to treat him - big accomplishments and I am proud!
Then, while he has a busy weekend with friends and family - I am taking the weekend off - no socializing - and I am excited...there are so many small projects I am eager to get done around the house....it may be strange - but after all of the holiday hoopla - I am so flippin' excited to hang-out by myself this weekend :-)

Hello all! It is a sunny morning and warmer today! Went to the gym and did weights, paid bills, stopped by the bank.We are having company for the weekend so I am going to head to the grocery store, then come home and do some last minute chores. Going to treat our guest couple to supper at the local steakhouse, so looking foward to it! Have a great day!

Good morning ladies. Vanessa sorry to hear you DD isn't being encouraged by her coach. I don't know why people like that insist on coaching young kids. If I were you, I'd be at every practice/game possible just to sit on the sidelines and cheer her on. That coach wouldn't be able to get a word in edgewise. He'd probably kick me out but it would be so worth it.

Mocha congrats on having not one but two job prospects. You go girl. Congrats to your DBF on passing that exam.
Now as for me, I haven't done one blasted thing yet except call and make a dentist appointment for DH. I need to concentrate on the office today because DSS is coming out tomorrow to try and get our old computer working so we can transfer info from it to our new one, Then I will have my own computer for MY favorite people and places, like you guys and FV. I'm also waiting for UPS to deliver my puzzles I ordered for part of my Christmas from DH. Dinner will be burritos and maybe some Spanish Rice. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

Ah Friday ... crazy day here for me. I think I am fighting off a cold of some sort? I zonked out before 8pm last night! Both DF and I slept in a lil later then usual and still got him ready for work and dropped him off. Came home to shovel the snow and clean off both cars properly. Set the Roomba free - even set dads off and left him to chase it around the house for his exercise
:shh:. Made the bed and picked up a lil.
Things left to do today - pack up a few needed items for the wknd - traveling up to DF's to bring back more stuff. Need to pack our clothes too. Pay a bill online. Make lunch with 'oops' extra leftovers for dad to eat through the wknd - he can just nuke vs having to cook (which can be a safety issue for us). Gas up car and pick up DF and we're on the road straight from work!
Hope everyone's having a great Friday!

Glad to finish this first week back from Christmas break. It was a killer. Haven't accomplished much today except read a few chapters in my book. Gathered eggs, cleaned and loaded the fireplace for the bitter cold that is suppose to be here by Sunday.

Good evening all!
Casey is about the same...I'm sleeping a LOT which is why I haven't been posting much lately. The stress of it all is so hard to deal with.
In brighter news, DH and I are going out for a couple of hours tomorrow. We haven't been out together in AGES because of money. Well, we WERE going to use our PFChangs gift card and see the dollar show, but I have found something more interesting to do.
There is a health food store one city over from us that is having a raw foods cooking class tomorrow!!! It is only $15 per person and you get recipes as well as samples. I think that is something that will be fun AND benefit our health. We don't eat raw all the time but enjoy going to a raw foods restaurant occasionally...now we can learn to do it ourselves and probably save a TON of money in the long run.
Well, I'd better go check on Casey....poor thing is as limp as a little rag doll. He does purr when you pick him up and love on him though.
Talk to everyone tomorrow!

Oops forgot yesterday to post!
Hope everyone had a great Friday!! I spent most of mine running around. I switched insurance companies for my auto and saved $120.00 a year and switched my home owners and saved $300.00 a year. So a total savings of $420.00!!! YAHOOOO
I am waiting on the city to mail out our property acessment so that I can have someone come out and verify our home value. It was listed last year at about $110k and I know that it is not worth that. The home across the street sold for 105k and it has a full driveway, finished basement, updated everything, and a 2.5 car garage. We have NONE of that lol. So I am hoping to be able to lower our property taxes and in turn lowering our mortgage payment in addition to the 300 ($25.00 a month) we lowered it by switching insurance companies. Not that we will notice until July, but with the refund they will send us I am going to send it into the snowball!!
Also ran to the school to figure out my financial aid. Won't know anything until Tuesday evening though.
I made Sliders (miniburgers) for dinnerwith tater tots & spend the evening tossing things out. I have 1 bag of stuff just from my bedroom, and I am still not done.Married to my highschool sweetheart, DD 6 DS 9 months
