Anyone Elses DH Think Your "Wasting Money" By Stockpiling?
My dh just doesn't get the point of stockpiling. I can go into the store and get $150 worth of stuff for $30 and he throws a hissy fit because I spent $30 on groceries! I think the man somehow has it in his head that I never need to do any grocery shopping at all, but it doesn't stop him from eating the stuff that I bring home
I keep explaining to him that food prices are rising, and that's why I'm trying to stockpile flour and cereal now! I give up, I'm not shopping, cooking, or letting him consume or use anything that I got with a coupon. This is an all-out boycot, and I know I'll win the first time he runs out of Dr. Pepper that I bought on sale. And no more of that free Excedrin for him until he starts to appreciate me! ERRR!!!

Nope. He brags about my deals to his co-workers. He's got them all green because not only does his wife know how to save money, but she cooks dinner *every night* and packs him lunch for work. They think that is the oddest thing of all. I feel sad for them.

We are together on this one thank goodness!!! I've saved so much to date from the beginning of the year (as well as over the YEARS) and have let him see my savings in print each time I go shopping...he is amazed!! I must say though, if he grumbles while having to move a case of something I promptly remind him how much he likes eating and how much I'm saving him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haha, Katy

Oh no, my Dh LOVES it. He brags to his friends and coworkers and shows it off everytime someone comes over who hasn't seen it yet. His friends think I'm nutty, but who cares?

My fiance has started complaining because our stockpile is eating into our limited closet space, I keep reminding him that we would rather store things we are going to use then "stuff" that we never use. He hasn't said anything about the money aspect yet, but I have cut way back on stockpiling last month and I haven't done any at all this month.

DH manages a grocery store so he knows the way prices are going up. He is behind the effort to buy at the lowest pricfe possible. In fact, he insisted I get another 6 cans of coffee at 3.99 per can

I'm sorry your DH doesn't "get it". Mine is great about it and also brags to his co-workers. He also tried to tell them how important it is that they do the same, but he hasn't managed to convert anyone yet! LOL
Is he not seeing how much you are actually saving? Or is space an issue? At first my DH was worried about space, but then I knew he was on board when I asked for shelving for my Birthday and he bought it for me.

At first, Old Man thought I lost a brain cell when I said I wanted to start stockpiling. He started to see what I was talking about with the food increases and HE called me at the store and told me to 'pick up a bag of rice' because he heard on the news about the ration at Sams/Costco.
That was a babystep, but a step all the same. He knows I come to the Village... he's actually said "go to the Village and see if they have anything about (fill in the blank). Many conversations start off with "I read on the Village that (fib) is going up" or "I noticed most of the people at the Village are planting bigger gardens"
We watched the C-Span coverage of the food prices. After that, he didn't even bat an eye when I came home Friday night with $170 worth of stockpile... and none of it is perishable or HBA products... He did raise an eyebrow when I left it in a big pile on the kitchen floor and told him I will 'get to it soon' (it's still there
)
As a child he grew up in a 'working poor' family in Memphis. His dad worked, his mom was in nursing school and chicken and rice was dinner... every night... for years. He knows that eating basic won't kill him.
My ex\-husband on the other hand, was born with a platinum spoon... none of that cheap silver there
He thinks I am totally off my rocker because I am buying more food now... I worry about him.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

My dh is pretty proud of my deals.
But I think you should give your dh the same 30 dollars you would normally spend and send him to the store to get all of his needs/wants. When he gets home and only has half the things on his list he might see it differently.

My dh is totally on board with stockpiling. We have always grocery shopped together (been married almost 23 years now!) so he definitely knows what prices are doing.
On a side note...I have always looked for sales on laundry soap and stocked up when I find a good deal. Well, our college-going daughter was home the other weekend and asked if I had any extra laundry soap. Dh started laughing and said "I think your Mom is down to a dozen bottles right now. I guess we can spare one for you."On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

DH is totally supportive and proud. He tells his coworkers that I can "squeeze a penny til Abe gets a nosebleed" and he brags about my "rubber chicken" (getting 3-4 meals outta one bird) He is a strong believer in stockpiling and keeps his eyes open and ears to the ground helping me find bargains.

Actually I've never had that problem
, my hubby has always been really great about my abilities to stretch a buck. If your hubby doesn't like the way you shop, perhaps he should take on grocery/cooking duty.
