    Default Yikes the grocery hike!!!

I have a friend who sets the new tags for groceries every week. She has done this for 10+ years. She told me that prices are jumping not 5 or 10 cents each week, but rather 30 cents to a $1.00 each hike. I thought it was an exaggeration, so I decided to go take a look for myself. Today I walked through the store and priced various things and what I found was that she was absolutely right on! Thankfully, over time I have learned to shop the sales and so I have not really noticed the "normal non-sale" price of groceries. Stockpiling has always been something that I have done and now there is more cause to do it! By having what we need in the cupboard, we have the luxury of waiting until the product goes on sale again before we have to buy. It's our only hedge against inflation. It takes time, but it really pays for itself!!!

I notice the hike each time I go to the grocery store and it's no wonder the grocery bills are so much higher now!

I hate to tell you this, but you will start to see it sonner than you think. I have noticed more people buy at sales and sale prices rising as fast as regular prices. While your stockpile may last a while it will need to be rebuilt at even higher prices. The rise in food prices is going to continue for at least 2 more years before leveling off.

[QUOTE=Dad_of_4;899511]. While your stockpile may last a while it will need to be rebuilt at even higher prices. /QUOTE]

I don't necessarily think that's always true, especially when a person combines store sales with coupons and comparision shops. Many stockpilers buy enough at one sale to last them until the next. That way they don't have to feel pressured to pay the higher price. Even if a person HAS to pay a higher price when their stockpile runs out, they are still saving money from where they have been using their stockpiled food. With summer upon us, some prices are already beginning to go down in my area, especially milk and dairy, as this is the prime milk production time for cows.

I combine sales and coupons and had not noticed the hike until this week. There were only 1-2 things I would buy this week and the price I paid was more than I normally would have for "sale" items.
I'm a very positive person, but this is depressing. I guess I will start praying hard for good crops from the garden and strawberry patch.
