What hasn't gone frugally for you this week?
We all strive to be frugal, but sometimes life gets in the way. What hasn't worked out as planned this week and what are you hoping to be more frugal at in the days to come? I need to give this some thought, so will answer my own question a little later.

We found out we need new brakes for the car and that has to come out of this coming check. That was a surprise.

This has been a horrible week for us! First, we had purchased an airline ticket for my SS to go see his mother this summer. We ordered it 2 months in advance so we would get a cheaper rate. Now, his mother doesn't have a steady residence, no job and no car so he will not be going to see her. Of course, the ticket is non-refundable!
Then, our truck broke down and is going to cost way too much for us to fix it, so we have to buy another vehicle. Used of course, but still!
All in all, we lost a lot of money this week!

I broke the glass in one of our casement windows trying to open it today. Called around for replacement glass only to find out that those 40-yr-old windows have what is considered non-replaceable glass. So, now we are getting quotes to go ahead and upgrade to vinyl windows on our casements, which we are going to replace with slides. It was on our list, just not quite so soon.

I keep trying to walk to campus (35 min walk), but it's been in the 40s, windy, and raining so much that my bike path would be all flooded. So I pay for the bus. Hmph. Also, another conference trip on Thursday for which I'm not getting very much funding...

1. I broke the pillar underneath the bathroom sink when I was cleaning the thingy underneath the sink where all the dirt gathers until it blocks the water from flowing down the drain. Yukkie work, made worse when the porcelain pillar fell over and broke. On the upside: this has created room to put a cabinet underneath the sink.
2. We went to the city hall Monday morning and fixed our wedding date: 27 June 2008. Dear fiance asked his best friend to be his best man, and this best man has told several other friends of our wedding, so suddenly we will have a party of around 50 people instead of 10. Fiance's friends are mainly African - we can't possibly tell them now that it's for our nearest kin only. So, I decided to make the best of it and invite some of my best friends too - to keep things balanced. All not very frugal, but I'm sure we're going to have such fun!

A back tire for DH motorcycle - $212.00. A definite need as he hasn't moved his truck from the driveway in a month due to gas prices.

Let's see, we've had quite a week so far. I think the biggest thing is our fridge conked out- $257 to fix, then we have replace the food we lost.
Then hubby just worked overtime, but found out he took too much vacation time by 12 hours- bye-bye overtime!
Not much we can do, just keep plugging away and try not to think of the fact that it's costing $100 per fill up on hubby's truck!

I wasn't planning on having to eat lunch out yesterday but my sis called and wanted myself and my 2 kids to meet her and her son at a new resteraunt for lunch. For 3 it was $40.00. Turns out the resteraunt was a more expensive one and the food wasn't to great either. I wouldn't have went but I haven't gotten to spend any time with my sis and nephew in a while. It was worth it to spend time with them.
I've also got the extra expense of a big church dinner coming up this weekend. I'll have to do a lot of cooking for it so that means a lot more extra groceries. Sigh!!

Well, our stimulus check hit and someone told Murphy. The same day it hit our account, we got a call from the oil company....we had 3 choices, no oil, small delivery at 4.24/gl or fill up at 4.13/gl. I chose the fillup since I knew I would only need about 120 gal and it would last through the rest of the year. THEN, our tv died for the 3rd time in 6 months. the first 2 times it was a $1 fuse (we replaced ourselves)...this time....hmmm. not sure. now we need a new tv. Also FIL had surgery last week, was supposed to be home last thurs but has 2 blood clots and poss pneumonia now so he's still in the hosp. DH has gone up 2x to see him and we' re going again this weekend. 150 miles round trip. with the current price of gas = aughhhh!! but I don't mind spending the money for that. The worst part is: this check was supposed to pay off #4 out of 6 cc that I've paid off since Jan 1. Oh well. we'll keep plugging away at the last 3.

Our hot water heater quit on us and DH hasn't gotten paid since March because his new contract is "Net 60". I've had to break my #1 rule: What goes into savings stays in savings.

We had to hire a plumber to fix a drip! $350 and that was just labor, not including parts!
