    Default yuck... cigarette smoke

Nothing against smokers or anything (pretty much my whole family smokes)...but yuck... stinky. lol.

We live in a half house. Well the girl next door used to smoke outdoors, even in cold weather. Well it looks like her bf has moved in and now they smoke inside. Which I really don't care what they do. But somehow the smoke is coming through the walls. We had problems when we first moved in a few years ago with a prior tenant smoking in the basement (it's only partitioned by a wall that doesn't go to the ceiling in all spots) and we had to have the landlord say something to them and they stopped. I went up to get the baby out of the crib and opened the bedroom door and it stunk like smoke... yuck. Maybe I have an extra sensitive nose. I don't know. But I don't want my stuff smelling like smoke. I used to give her credit for at least not smoking inside when she has a little one... but can't give her that anymore...

I can't wait to get approved for this loan thru Rural Development so we can get a house. We sent in the prequal last saturday and they have 5 days to process so we should be hearing about that at the beginning of the week. I can't make it go quick enough!! We found a house we're interested in and are hoping that it will last until we get approved. It's a 4 bedroom house on 3 acres of land. Even has a large fenced in area for the kids and a plot of land for a veggie garden... YEAH!!!!

We have had the same problem in a couple of places we rented also. I am so glad we finally own a house now. Good luck with your loan. The house sounds great!

I understand. Our oldest son and I have allergies to cigarette smoke. Our new neighbor smokes in his garage...which is right outside our windows. I've had a sinus infection twice since he moved in...the first sinus infections in a long time. Our son has had a sinus infection and bronchial pneumonia. I know people think we're judging them, but that is not it at all...we just don't like being sick.

I totally understand. If people want to smoke, okay. I don't smoke and I don't want to breathe it. I am sure your neighbor doesn't realize that the smoke is seeping into your house. Maybe if you politely mentioned it to her she would take her smoking back outside. It would be worth a try anyway.

I feel sorry for you lisette. I understand, too, because I used to be a smoker and now it seems to bother me twice as much as other people who never smoked. It makes me cough and gives me a sinus headache.

I hope you can find a way to avoid it altogether. Maybe the neighbor will at least turn on a fan to blow it outside? Can't hurt to suggest something but knowing many smokers, they get kind of riled up when you start in on them because they are treated like lepers lately. They don't realize how sensitive some people are to the smoke.

Ex smoker here. I never knew how much cigs smell so bad until I stopped smoking! I mean I had a new nose. I can't believe I walked around with clothes smelling that way after I washed them because I smoked in the house.

No advice, but I hear ya.

I lived with a smoker all my life until 3 years ago. Gripey smoked outside most of the last 10 years or so but still......ugh I loathe the faintest hint of cigarette smoke. Makes my nose burn, throat itch and head hurt. I feel your pain.....I can smell it miles away.
I hope you get your loan done soon.

Definately hear you. Ex-smoker here. Have two smokers around me and I can literaly see the smoke come in my place if the patio door is open sometimes. Plus it really gets annoying not being able to sit outside without smelling the stuff. So hard to believe I was doing the same thing and stinking of smoke.

Try saying something to the landlord again. Maybe he can get them to smoke outside. Good luck with this.

Ex-smoker here, too. I still crave the smell of a cigarette burning at times. I will go and stand with one of my friends who smokes so I can smell it. Crazy - Huh?.

However, I hate the way it smell on clothes and the way it makes a room smell.

We go the Indian casino every so often and boy do we stink when we come out. We take all of our clothes off at the door and put them straight in the washer. Otherwise, that smoke smell would get all in the house.

90% of the folks at the casino smoke And not just normal smoking. I mean serious chain smoking - light one up before they put the last one out. It smells sooooo bad. My throat is usually scratchy and my nose is sore within hours of leaving there.

I still smoke, but only outside, and on the opposite side of the neighbor's house. Not much I can do for them that. I know people don't like my smoke, so I go out of my way to not do it around them, but if they follow me it's their fault. LOL Anyway, I sympathize.

    Yucki is right!
    I couldn't stand it either!

I would politely mention to the neighbor that the smoke seeps through the walls (and it kind of makes you sick). She has no way of knowing it unless you tell her.

Most smokers are respectful of others. But being in her own place- she may not care to change. It's certainly her right. And you've recognized it too.

Lets just cross our fingers that the bf is a kinder smoker.
