Where to stash your cash??
Without giving away any secret hiding places, for those who keep their emergency funds in cash (or those who do not use a bank whatsoever), whats a good way to safetly keep cash at home? We have a floor safe but it is one of those electronic keypad types that takes a battery. It seems to be dead whenever I *really* need to get into it. So I'm thinking of going back to a combination safe in the wall or something.
Ideas?

Mason jars in the yard, just remember where you buried them!

Seriously, hubby has a wall gun safe and cash is kept in there with the guns.

Most battery-powered safes also have keys for back-up in case the battery dies and you need to get into it. You can contact the manufacturer, and they can replace your key based on the serial number of your safe. Ask me how I know....

I think in the wall is a great idea! I also like under the house- unless you have a slab subfloor. We change our location all the time, but I would really like to put it in the wall at some point.

I stash all my ones in a decorative teapot. Other than that we don't stash much cash on hand...although I am thinking we need to change that.

I move it when the mood strikes me . One place to really hid a good amount is in a flower pot under a fake plant that is above my kitchen cabinets.

I don't keep much cash at home, so a large amount would definitely be short term. I would probably divide it and stash it in randomly chosen books (and keep a list!) -- and hope not to have a fire. I do have a small portable safe, but the bad guys could just pick that up and tote it home with them hoping for a windfall. Boy, would they be disappointed! However, if I were anticipating a real cash-only kind of emergency (if I lived in hurricane land, for example) that is probably where I would put it.

I just stash it in an old container but not much is in there since I put most or all of it in the savings acct. I like the buried in a mason jar idea

Just remembered... saw on a tv show recently where a female hid a top-secret computer disk in a tampon box. I guess that would be one of the last places people might look, LOL.

lol
I actually know someone who has a small amount rolled up and stashed in an empty Preparation H box in the medicine cabinet.
Just like the tampon story above, that is the last place I would be looking, lol.

We don't keep much cash in the house, enough to pay for a cab or tow truck if our car pitches a fit.. We have that in several different locations, which get moved every so often. The last time was taped up under the edge of our entertainment center.
