I would buy extra containers and you can make up more of them with the leftovers from dinners throughout the week. Label them, and then throw them in the freezer.

How about some tortillas with shredded cheese, heated in the microwave?

Addendum: Checked our local stores online this morning and thank you Lord!! There are so many sales starting today that focus on "Kids out of school". For instance: Tuna is .49 a can, Mac 'n cheese .29 box, Wienies .69 package, Cantaloupe .88 ea, Pringles chips .77 can and the list just goes on.

Incorporating the items that are on sale to fit with the menus.

Thank you all again for the WONDERFUL ideas! That crockpot idea is SMASHING!

Pip.... I made the tortilla roll ups and cheese as a snack last night.. Yum yum!

we use my sandwich maker alot here. they love the how it is like a hot pocket and put what they want on it. I hit the bread store on mondays, for dollar loaves and cut up all the stuff and put in small containers so they can fix themselves..
Another cute thing is I do the grilled cheese on the waffle maker grill. It makes them laugh and still tastes great.
We also created the spagettie sandwich. Don't know but they like it so much they ask for it.. go figure

I agree here. They sent home the June menu the other day and it's just like the school one, mostly hot lunches. I think I'll try it out this year. Yay for free lunches w/o income requirements!
