Default Stashing Cash ... what denomination of bills?

This is a sort of spin-off of the where to stash cash thread.

Okay ... just wondering what denomination of bills that you think best to stash.

I'm guessing that $20.00 bills and under would probably be the best, what do you all think?

I don't stash anything over a $50. My reasoning is that the gas stations around here when paying with cash don't accept anything over a $50.

    I am only stashing my 1s. Every time I get 1's, I stash them, the reasoning being that I won't miss my 1's as badly as I would a 5 or a 10 or a 20. In about a 2 week span, I've saved around 30$.

I stash $1's and $5's . . . I figure in an emergency, no one will be able to make change, so I'd end up paying $20 for a can of Coke or something.

    I only stash $20's. I'm saving for something big...what, I don't know, but if I stash the $20, then I won't break it.

    I stash anything but only bills like a $20, $10, $5 and $1. No bills bigger than a $20

    Everything is in 20s.

1s and 5s are my little yard-sale allowance. If I build up over 40 in yard-sale money I take and swap out for one 20 to put into stash and keep the other half for yardsales

Change jar we haven't decided yet, just trying to fill it up. (It's a large canister. Last time we counted it had $37.89 at 1/3 full.)

    I think that's what I'm gonna do, is to stash the $1's, $5's, $10's and $20's.

Now to just figure out a way to stay out of it [way easier said that done!]

We keep a small cash stash, but hubby says in a true national emergency, coins will be more valuable so we tend to keep more of those on hand.

    I save my $1.00 bills.

However as I am now trying to be frugal, which means not using my debit card to obtain cash from the ATM I am not using cash that much now, so my stash of $1.00's is not increasing as much now.

I managed to save $75.00 in two months (not being frugal). So I decided that when I get paid, I will get twenty dollars in $1.00's so that I can keep saving.

    I save my coins too.

I recall a few years ago I saved my dollar coins. I needed a root canal, and was delighted that I had over $700.00 saved which I used to used to reduce my dental bill of $1500.00.

This is a really insterseting theory, do you stash to save or to keep incase there is ever an emergency and you can't get to what is in the bank?

At the moment I save our coins (here in australia this includes $1 and $2) and we recently had some new $5 notes printed so I am saving any of the old ones that make their way into my purse.

My plan was to put them into the bank once they had accumulated a little bit but perhaps I should keep them and save them incase I can't use my ATM card for any reason

This is interesting. I haven't thought of doing this. We've always saved our coins, but I think I'll start stashing the 1's also to start.
Where are you girls stashing yours? I need creative ideas to keep hubby and kids out of it.

The coins sound like they'd be a good idea too [guess I'll add them to my list as well! ]
