Wink Defending my frugality with figures!

Ok, I have a mildly humorous story to share with all of you frugalites!

I've been sick as a dog this last week with a cold, and so I've been carrying around my roll of TP with me. Well my nieghbor, who is very money minded, was making fun of me about walking around with my TP.

So, I got out my calculator and calculated the cost of kleenex vs. the cost of my "spam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typed" tissues (that is what DH calls them):

    Here are my figures:

200 count box of Kleenex brand tissues $3.09
3.09/200 = 0.015 cents per kleenex (not too bad, but wait...)

4 pack of toilet tissue (1000 sheets per roll) = $2.79
I use 4 squares per nose blow (ok, TMI, but it's for scientific purposes)
So I end up with 1000 "tissues"
    2.79/1000 = 0.002 per tissue!!!!

That is two hundreths of a cent vs. one and a half cents!

I literally brought my scratch pad out and showed him the cost difference. He turned to his wife and said "You're not buying kleenex anymore! It's too expensive!"

    I thought that was hilarious!

That is funny LOL!!! I haven't bought kleenex in years...couldn't see paying the extra cost for something toilet paper can handle.

I was thinking I hope you're using a good brand...otherwise you'll be using Prep. H for the sore nose....... (it works b.t.w.)

That is too funny! Even if I do use the kleenex with lotion and aloe and everything else they can throw in it, I still get a sore nose, so it doesn't make much difference. I usually use antibiotic ointment, which works or diaper rash cream when the kids were little and I had it around...I've never tried Prep H though. Might have to give it a shot!

Listen, I don't want to sound threatening here, but if my wife gets any ideas from this and stops buying "Kleenex" (well, Berkley and Jensen brand tissues), you and I are going to have issues!

    Great story : )

To bad you weren't able to take a picture of that guy telling his wife that the kleenex was off the shopping list!

Sometimes when others "get it" it can be quite comical. Like we invented something new or something!

When I was in college I always did this for two reasons ..
    - I had to buy kleenex, college dorm supplied toilet paper
    - you can stuff the dirty kleenexes in the tube and then throw them all away at once after class
