Arrow $10 gas = 66 cents per mile... *Spin Off Thread*

Ok a spin off from my other thread.

Say gas were $10 a gallon and you got 15 miles a gallon (average of all vehicles, not super good little cars or guzzling SUVs)... it would equal out to $0.66 a mile.

So it would cost you 66 cents to drive one mile.

It would cost us about $210.00 to fill up one car (21 gallons).

    300 miles a week would = $198.00 in gas each week. $792+ a month.

Most grocery stores are two miles from me = $2.64 to go to the store.

    Hubby works 12 miles away = $15.84 each day to work/ $79.20 per 5 day week/ $348.48 per 22 day work month.

Visiting my dad/grama is 19 miles one way = $25.08

Visiting the majority of my friends (most are about 30 miles away) = $39.60

    Doctor/Hospital is roughly 5 miles away = $6.60

    Etc...

What would it look like for you??

Im a number dork so I like things like this...

    21 gallon car x $10 gallon =$210.00 every 3 weeks. ($70 a week)

    $0.66 a mile:

To and from kids school 1.5 miles x 5 days = $4.95/week ( we may walk more!)

To and from grocery store now 16 miles x 2times a month =$21.12/month ( i would be shopping at one a mile away then!)

I work from home so that helps with my calculations.

    It's weird to count out!

Then it made me count out what I pay NOW.

I don't have a vehicle now but I love this thread anyways!

Wow, I'm so impressed how everything was broken down like that.

It sure makes one think, doesn't it?!

    Love,

    Cool

I thought I was the only one who did this...LOL

It would cost me $3.30 to get to work each day = $16.50/week (or about 2 hours pay after taxes!)

I would shop, bank, pay rent, go to library, etc. only once a month because that trip would be around $10. Not too bad, because I try to do this anyway. I'd walk to DBF's house (about 2 blocks - I should be doing this anyway, but I would hate to lug laundry!) and I'd walk to our friends' house (about 1/2 mile - we go every weekend to play dice and chat).

I'm a home-body anyway, so I might like it if I was "forced" to drive less.

My tank is just under 15 gallons. I get an average of 22 mpg.

15* $10 = $150 to fill up. I go through 2 tanks a month for $300DH goes through about the same, though he gets better gas mileage. For a family total of $600 a month.

    45 cents per mile.

A fortune is all I know! I live about an hr away from Aldi's, 2 hrs from the hospital( which we have to go to all the time), an hr away from a city that actually has anything in it.
Gas is a fortune now, let alone if it went up that much. I'd just be staying home much more often.

Wow, this is crazy. It would cost me 5.28 just to got to our little town. We have a small grocery, library, and gas station. I don't even want to figure out how much it would cost to go to the hospital or the actual grocery store. It just blows my mind.

I suspect that if gas were $10 a gallon- it's because we've discovered a way to get 400 MPG and the oil companies are still looking for their whopping profits.

But just in case we didn't. I would never purchase (never have) a vehicle that gets 15 MPG. So, I can't cal on that. The lowest I would ever accept (and ever have) is 22mpg. That generally means a 17 gal tank (never had a 21 gal tank in my life).

I would get 374 miles per tank.
44 cents per mile. (still not good)

It would cost me about $170.00 to fill up one car (17 gallons) which is filled once every 3 weeks = $57/wk or $247/mo

My grocery store is one miles = $.90 to go to the store.

Visiting my dad is 15 miles one way = $13.50

    Visiting my daughter = 100 m one way = $90.00

    Doctor/Hospital is roughly 5 miles away = $4.50

    This is an eye opener!

What would it look like for me? It would look like a monthly Metro pass for $60 to me. Gas doesn't even need to get to $10 for a bus pass to be the logical choice. Breakeven is somewhere around $5-6 a gallon, I think. I don't drive many miles, but the old Honda's mileage around town isn't great. And I live 1 block from a minor bus route and 4 blocks from two different major routes.

You're forgetting the fuel surcharge they will add in.

My parents gave me todays paper and it had in it the price of gas for overseas. The main one that made me gasp was Turkey, its $11.16 a gallon. I guess the people over there are striking and protesting to their government. In just a few years we may be at the price.
