    Default Garage sales

I've officially earned more money at my garage sale than I spent. Garage sales don't do well around here. My neighbor set up shop on Thursday. I felt sorry for her sitting out there on her own. She was lamenting not having anything to do, so I offered to bring some stuff out and sit with her and spell her off every now and then. In the end it transpired to two garage sales across the alley from each other. We've been having a great time kibbitzing and generally keeping each other company.

I offered to pay half of her advertising costs, but she didn't think it was necessary. Hmmm... I'll offer again when we're done. I've made a whooping $26 so far! That's not bad, considering everything is priced at like 10 cents to a dollar. I just want this stuff gone!

DH is thinking I should try to sell the homeschool curriculum on-line, but I've tried and it hasn't budged. Hmmm...maybe I'll try again. I hate to let a full year of Artes Latinae, which cost me over $500 new, go to goodwill!

There were TONS of sales going on here! But I resisted. I have too much already, and DD is hoping to sell some stuff to earn her way to New York in June 2009!

$26 is great! Keep it up! It was nice to offer to pay 1/2!

What a kind thing for you to do and made some money while being friendly with a neighbor.

Well the final tally was $24 after I paid for half the ad. So I really made over $50, which is a screaming success for me with garage sales. I just can't believe how much the newspaper charges for advertising though. It's almost not worth it. I suggested to some people shopping and my neighbor that we have a community garage sale next year. Turns out the woman shopping lives in the area and claimed they used to have one, but for some reason it got discontinued. She thinks it would be a good topic to bring up to the community association again. So maybe it will happen!

I got rid of half my stuff. Only 3 boxes went to good will. One box came into my house to be sold on-line...again. And some stuff is being held for fall sales on-line. It's winter sports equipment and Christmas stuff.

DH and I went out for dessert last night, but shouldn't have. It took too long, I was too tired, and I slobbered chocolate fondue all down the front of my silk blouse. Sigh... when I'm tired I can't eat or drink...too uncoordinated...sigh... Anyway, lesson learned. I'm not as young as I used to be. From now on when I sit in the sun all day, I'm sleeping the evening away!
