getting frustrated with sales....
or lack there of. For probably the last few months, the sales at the grocery stores around here have just plain sucked!! We have a tops, p&c, wegmans and 2 smaller grocery all in the same area where we shop. You would think with the new superwalmart coming into the area that these stores would have better sales but they're not!! The one thing I hate is when they make something look like such a great sale and you're only saving pennies off their normal price. Tops did this with their pasta last week having it on sale for 10 for $10. That was like 9 cents cheaper than normal.
As much I dislike buying at walmart for various reasons, we have been getting more and more groceries there. ANd at sam's club too. We're on a tight budget (as are so many out there) and need to make the dollar stretch.
Has anyone else noticed how the sales are in their areas?

Ours has stunk here in MidCoast Maine. In fact prices have gone up and the sale price is about 0.05 more then the old price. I've taken to shopping at Walmart for my big shopping trip every month and use Hannafords for the opps I forgot stuff.
Hannafords Walmart
1.35 Hot Dogs 0.69 Bar S Brand
1.15 Pasta 0.99 Store Brand
1.20 Pasta Sauce 0.99 Store Brand
15.00 4lbs ground beef 10.00
Unfortunately the nearest Walmart is 30 minutes away so I have to factor in gas to get there which is why we only go once a month

I seriously just stick to Aldi's and Walmart super center. I can't find much better deals. I use my local grocery to fill in anything else that I need. Usually just small items.

We just had a Super Stop & Shop open last week. You would think they and the other 2 stores w/i 10 miles would have a great sale that week, right? Nooooo, just your usual 10/10 stuff! It is getting harder and harder to feel everyone with healthy food at a decent price. Thank goodness I have the stockpile to stretch things out.

We have Meijer, Kroger, Value Market, Sam's and Super Wal-Mart. Meat and milk run decent sales but everything else hasn't run a good sale on things I routinely buy in quite some time. Kroger had a decent sale not too far back but most of what I bought I just wouldn't have normally bought.

My Winn Dixie, has had a few good sales, but I think with the prices going up, we just aren't finding the sales they way they used to be. Groceries are costing so much now that I hate to even go buy them.

The sales or lack of stink around here too! What they call being on sale really isnt on sale since they jack the price up to "make" it look like it's on sale, KWIM?
I too have found myself shopping at Walmart Super Center more these days but as always I continue to shop at the outlet stores.

I totally agree!!! It has been depressing, really. Krogers had a "phsyco-mega" sale a few months back that I really stocked up with, but ever since then, it's been stink-o all the way around.
**sigh**

I feel the same way.
Usually the commissary (grocery store for military & their dependents) is the cheapest place for me to get the majority of my groceries. But even they are edging up and are just barely cheaper or the same price as Aldi and even the more expensive Price Chopper.
I told dh if next month the prices are even more close to Price Chopper & Aldi, I'm just going to do my shopping there. The commissary is a further drive for me, they are undergoing construction so everything is a mess and they aren't stocking stuff (so they don't have to move it around), and Price Chopper offers fuel rewards (10c off/gallon for every $50 spent).

I agree! I used to enjoy getting the weekly ads in the mail and then matching coupons to sale items. Everything is so expensive now!

The only good deals I've gotten lately were at Safeway when they had some "budget stretcher" store coupons on the front of their ad. Strawberries (4 lbs.) $4, apple juice (64 oz.) $1, frozen boneless/skinless chicken breasts (4 lb. bag) $5., dozen eggs $1, Kraft mac & cheese 5-pack, $3.

The sales stink here. I hate to say it though but the Super Wal-mart will not make things get any better. They got worse here when ours opened up. Everything went up. My favorite grocery store closed. It was the only one in town that ever had a decent sale. Now that its gone the prices at Wal-mart have gotten even higher.

I wouldn't say that I can get great deals on food but there is a local discount chain in northern ohio called Marc's and they do carry some inexspesive alternatives in the canned and processed food areas that has made a bid difference in my food bill. Also they carry off brand dairy products and their prices on crackers and chips are cheaper than most stores plus they do accept coupons.
Also I 've noticed that the local grocery store is slowly adding cheaper alternatives on some items plus they've added double coupons days on Monday and Tuesday.

OK, so I don't feel so bad about my food budget being really off the wall lately. Was thinking it was me. The only thing I seem to regularly get decent prices on are non-food items. Fortunately summer is coming and produce atleast is varied. Really don't know what I will be doing in the winter time with produce. Something tells me prices will be really high!

Food prices are going up everywhere in general. Maybe that's why there aren't so many sales? I for one blame the price of gas.
