Talking I'm so excited! I cut my own hair!

OK, I used to do this a lot when it was long, or shoulder length, but it has been short this past few years, and I've been afraid I'd butcher it.

And we are at our cabin up north here, and only small towns around, and I don't know how any of the shops are. ( My gal at home has been cutting it about every 4-6 weeks ($$!!!) because of how it is now--about 2" all over.) It was getting long while we've been up here. I was sick of it.

So I got a scissors after a shower, and stood in the bathroom mirror, and cut it all over along the lines that she had cut it last time. Had dh even up the back neckline for me. Voila! It looks pretty GOOD! No, actually it does!

All of the back layers weren't as hard as I thought, you just hold them out straight from the head the way the stylists do, and take off whatever has grown out.

All of my family has always cut hair--my mom did all of ours when I was a kid, and I do my sons and dh hair. They won't go anywhere else! When my hair was longer, I always cut it, bringing it forward (they had a tutorial online) and snipping.

But I was a little nervous about this short cut. I'm relieved and happy! This will save me a ton of $$ and I can do it whenever I want!

Way to go!! I am thinking of following your lead. Really!! I am worried about butchering it too, but maybe since you said it wasn't too bad I may just try it.

I bet it looks as good as the gal who cuts it at home!

Michelle, if you've cut anyone else's hair, it's almost as easy as that.

I was pretty chicken, too, I put it off for a week after I first got the notion. But, even dh says it looks good. Says you can't tell it from my stylist's cuts.

Good for you! I'll bet it does look great I've been cutting my own hair for years - I've saved myself TONS of money. I wouldn't even know who to go to if I wanted someone else to do it. I'm glad you had the courage to do it yourself!

That's awesome that you got the courage up enough to do it.
I think that's what puts alot of people off, but even if you start out with a little micro trim all over and then advance to cutting off more the next time, each time you trim it, you will build more confidence in doing it yourself.

This is the method I use:
    http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim/

I've been self-trimming for the past couple of years and I've vowed to never go back to a salon again.
It's convenient, it's cheap and you know you'll get what you want every time. If you want just a trim, you won't have to go in and lose 6 inches.

Default Quantified savings hair for everyone to see.

Oddly enough, I was calculating recently the savings from cutting my own hair for the last 20 years. It is at least $3,000.

That isn't much spread over 20 years, but you also have to add the savings of time and travel to that figure. Also, the convenience of doing it when you want to is great.

All told, it is quite a savings in time and money.

I'm gonna start coloring mine too-(or leave it go grey, see if dh notices, lol) and I would save another $65 every two months! I will have to do what you guys do ---check and see what this will add up to for the next ten years. I still like it, BTW!
