That article is so sad. We looked into renting different apartments this year, we wanted more space and more storage. What we discovered was the high cost of pet deposits. We have two cats and we only pay $20 a month right now total for the monthly pet deposit. If we moved into a different apartment the average monthly pet fee was $30 per cat ($60 total each month to own pets) and a non-refundable fee of $300. It's just unreal! When I questioned the increased rise in rent and pet deposits, compared with three years ago when we were looking and I was told it's supply and demand. There are more people renting in the area because they can't afford a home or they lost their home, so it's a competitive market and they are getting away with it. We decided to stay where we are for now. We have decided that we were lucky to find a place that's affordable and pet friendly. We plan to stay here at least another year.
