I have called dh Mr Frugal for a long time but really he has no idea of our finances.. so we are working on that.

He does not understand how I can save money by spending it... he hates to buy shoes so this winter he had to have a new pair of tennis shoes... he found a pair he liked they were a good enough price for him so I grabbed a second pair.... he balked I said it is worth it to not go through this again and they are on sale...

But yet he will buy a big can of peanuts and finish them off in a few weeks.

Wow, that's totally amazing! I'm so glad you finally got DH to convert and it makes me wonder if there's hope out there for my DH. I think DH is starting to come through, though. I show him the budget and let him know what accounts I pay the bills out of, how much we have for groceries, and how much I'm spending on a stockpile. The other day we went to Edmonton for a BBQ (sort of a post-wedding party since SIL and BIL got married in Vegas) and had to stop to get them a present. DH walked into London Drugs, comes back out and shows me how he got 2 V-Tech phones for 30 dollars...then cheerfully adds in, "It was regularly 40 dollars, that's 25% off!".

My DH was like that the first year we were together. Now he knows that it can't be like that anymore, and he's gotten tons better. He has no regrets, either.

This has GOT to be the biggest issue in our family. It isn't that he's a spender because he has VERY little needs, he just doesn't want the burden of keeping everything on track and organized. He absolutely HATES paper work.

For a while, my husband did so well saving money and keeping spending in check. When school started last year, we had $1200 for school clothes and supplies...I was shocked!

But, recently, he's been spending like a mad man, and we've been overdrawn a couple of times in the last two months. We're going to have to go back to his not having his debit card, I think.

I'd like a mixture of the OP's scenario and mine.

I had to laugh at all the post. A couple of years ago I was the one spending like crazy, then I found this site and have been on "my frugal kick" ever since. My DH was always the one who saved and scrimped. Now he tells all friends and family that I'm the frugal queen and gives them all this website.

It's great when both parties are on the same page of life.

My hubby is a lot better. He now insists on an emergency fund. We have been living in different provinces for a few months so finances have been poor. He tries to shop frugally for food. He complained today about the cost of eating out as he has had to do it while an engineer was installing a piece of equipment - it is expected and he also has to deal with food intolerances or will end up sick so it costs $20-30 every time he eats out. He made us stick with our upper limit for a new house so we wouldn't have more mortgage (learned from previous mistakes!). He arranged a garden plot at work (it is one of the free perks, but only 4-5 people request it per year - it is 30x30 so we should be able to get some good produce out of it!) I am sure we will be back on track very soon after the move (the end of this month!!).
