Wow, thanks for the list ... I also had no idea that corn would be in so many products.
What an eye-opener!

petty I know but we are not out west. We are the middle of the country funny how we see things different depending where you live.
not just flooding seepage under the levee filling the fields with water and many farmers never even got the corn planted because of rain every week meant wet fields so many are planting soybeans if they can even do that now.
Drought for 3 years and now 5 inches more rain than normal in May that is alot of rain.
I think we will have to just live with it for a while eat less meat do without all the things with corn sweeteners in them We might actually lose weight and get healthy.Meg
cc debt free YEAH on to the mortage

It's very depressing. Food was already rising in prices before the floods. I just purchased a sack of grain and I paid TWICE what I paid last year. I hate to think of it going higher.

Really had no idea of all the uses that corn has. This is just a terrible situation.

After my fruitless drive around Wisconsin on Friday, I was talking with my parents about just how many crops I saw under water...not to mention all the less visible damage. Even they are seriously considering starting a stockpile or getting emergency rations.

I try to keep on a 80/20 plan. 80% local (I include the whole state of AL) produce and products.
For non local I need to stockpile some more catfood, cat litter, pasta, pouched tuna and salmon, and toilet paper.

I'll be buying more cornmeal, too. I've been trying to build up as much of a stockpile as I can without dh griping about how much money I'm spending on all this stuff (not that much). I'm also starting to collect those buckets that stuff comes in from the delis in the grocery store to store grains and rice in. Eeks, now I feel the need to go buy 25 more ibs of beans and flour! LOL

I'm gonna stock up some this week or next [whenever I get to the store] on lima beans and northern beans.
Not sure if those will go up much [they might though 'cuz everything else sure is!]
Either way, they're very frugal meals so best to stock up while we can still afford to, huh?
Love,
Jen
