How bad is it
that I have exceeded my grocery budget for the month before my gas budget? Plus I drive a gas guzzler. Ugh. Okay rant over.

Aw that stinks! Hope you were able to stock up on some stuff, so that next month might go a little easier on you.

I have been over frequently lately. I've got to get it in order before the slower winter months roll in. We generally have extra income in the summer but if I don't get ours under control winter will be a mess.

I feel for you. We have 2 extra mouths to feed this month (June) and I didn't think we'd go over as much as we have.
We even had extra $ budgeted. We'll have to make up for it next month though. All the children will be one - so it will only be DH and I. I will use the extra budgeted for stocking up. That way when the one child comes back in mid August, we will have a good stockpile.

Holy backfire!
I never really thought of that!
That's the first I've heard of it this way. gas costing more than the food you eat.
Dammit! we're in trouble. I think we'll see alot of this.

sorry to complain. I just never expected it I guess. I mean I try really hard with coupon, sales, etc. and I always just figured that with the price of gas I would exceed that first.

The grocery & gas prices are keeping me out of the store. I'll run in on my way home from work, grab the sale items & a few must haves (bread, milk) to get by. I have to grocery shopping later this week since we are low/out of so much. I really think I'll have to increase my monthly budget for groceries soon with these prices.
May Groceries $238/250 Pet Supplies $111/125
Coupons $50.08
April Groceries $253/250 Pet Supplies $109/125
Coupons $34
Coupon Saving 2012 $165.61
2011 $376.25

grocery prices are getting on up there. I'm having to struggle with not raising my own grocery budget here. (and I'll probably be over this month too)

Not that it's any consolation, but I've already exceeded my budget too, so far by $27 for the month. However, I am slowly stocking up on stuff (canned fruits, HBA, etc.) as I see it, and using extra money to get it now, rather than pay out the butt for it in December, etc. I'm really praying for an awesome garden this year, so I am able to can as much as I possibly can!! I just wish our fruit trees had some fruit on them this year. I might try some local farm markets and see about getting a bushel or 2 of pears and/or peaches, just so I can put some up for winter. Even home canned fruits have to taste better than the commercial ones....right!?!?!?

We just did our grocery shopping today and spent $127.00. We're not over our budget for the month yet because we went one week only buying milk & bread but we have a huge stockpile of food so we're just buying sale items, bread, milk, and 1 treat a piece each week now and continually adding to our stockpile. But, those groceries were already more expensive than we paid for the same items a few months ago and even when they are on sale~!

Forgot to add that our bill was so high today because we had rainchecks on sale items that were expireing soon and we needed to use them up or lose them so we got some great deals for sale items from weeks past.
Also, we help out our son who isn't living with us but comes by occasionally to raid the freezer, lol.Last edited by dolphin; 06-18-2008 at 09:12 PM. Reason: added additional information instead of making a new post.:)

The sad thing is the cost of groceries is heavily tied into the cost of fuel because most of what we buy come from 1,500 miles away. Everything is going to go up. And the floods in Iowa will only add to the misery for everyone (especially those who live in Iowa).
My advice to everone is:
1. Get out of debt as fast as you can so your income is yours -- not the bank's.
2. Grow as much as you can yourself
3. Network with friends to buy necessities in bulk so that you each get a lower per unit cost. . .

At this point waste of any food is not allowed. We are eating everything, leftovers, and eating out just isn't really there for us anymore. I'm planning more meals and cooking much more from scratch.
