DH's frugal epiphany
My DH is a great guy. He lets me do whatever I want without any problems. However lately I've been really ramping up the stockpile and garden etc. He was giving me some gentle ribbing about it. I had told him that prices were getting crazy and he just looked at me like I was a little nuts.
Well, now we're on vacation. We're staying at a friend's cabin and trying to deal with meals. I had wanted to bring lots of food with us and he told me I was nuts. That was until the $50 lunch. Then we had the trip to the grocery store where he couldn't believe the prices of the food there. All of a sudden I'm not so nuts. He can't believe the cost of food. It's really kind of nice to have him understand what I've been dealing with. I think I'll have to take him to the grocery store every once in a while for a reality check.

My husband has no clue when it comes to prices on food or other bills for that matter. As long as the lights, cable, gas and phone are on, he is happy. lol

Amen!! Sometimes they just need a wake up call. My husband is much better than he was before about money, but he has a ways to go. Of course, I'm always trying to do better, too, so it's not fair to just pick on my husband.

Cool! My DH was laughing about my stockpile until he saw the inside of the grocery store not long ago. I pointed out all the price increases to him. His jaw just went slack.

yes i know prices have gone crazy, my dh understands about the prices but i do buy powerade and gatorade for him to drink at work as where he works is not airconditioned at all so it can get to 130 degrees in there. So buying those kinda things i have to cut back on other things.

Have you tried the drink mixes that you add to water? They come in a box in the koolaid aisle at wmart. Replenish sports drink. I think they are 10 in a package and are only a couple of bucks. My dh loves them. I get them to add to water in the summer, so he won't get dehydrated in the heat when he cuts grass and does outside things.

Several years ago my DH complained that I spent too much on food. So to retaliate I quit going shopping and buying things and we just ate what we had in the house. Pretty soon, he would ask why don't you make such and such any more. My reply was "beacuse it takes this item and we don't have any of that." After several things he wanted to eat, that we didn't have the ingredients for he didn't complain again about my shopping, (until recently, I have to open his eyes again, LOL)

I usually do most of the shopping but he's been coming with me more often since we combine alot of trips. So funny to see the look on his face when he sees the price of some things. He says well it used to be such and such & I say "Jack that was back in the 80's before we had kids."
