Default Sticker shock at the grocery store.

Today is the first day I've been able to go to the Save-A-Lot grocery store for almost 11 weeks because of an injury. They don't have a decent wheelchair. Anyway today I managed to hobble through hold on to the buggy while my kids put what we needed in. I was shocked to see how much can foods have gone up. The peas, corn, carrots and things that were .29 cents and then went up a few cents a can are now up to .47 cents a can. I didn't get any. You can't use coupons there either because its store brands. Of course everything else had gone up too. What little I got was over $100.00. Plus we have a high tax rate of 9.5. I didn't get to put a garden out this year either because of my injury. I sure hope I can buy some vege's locally to put in the freezer.

    It stinks doesn't it???
Prices are rising faster than homemade bread does!

I haven't been to Save a lot or Aldi in a long time. I hate to here that S-A-L went up. Does anyone know if Aldi went up too? I guess that is a stupid question. Of course they did! Hasn't everyone/everything?!

Thanks freebs. After seeing the prices going up like that I really need to write things down in a notebooks so I can compare prices. Before I've always had it pretty much in my head but looks like I need to keep up and write it down because of so many changes.

The mackerel reminds me I forgot to pick up some pink salmon. I'll do that later.

I haven't shopped at a regular grocery since Feb (usually do the salvage grocery) I went a few days ago and had shock as well. I spent almost 200.00. Makes me sick to see the prices so high...and the products smaller.

    Hope you recover soon!

You know I had noticed about the products getting smaller and the # in packages but even today I noticed that potatoes are 8 pound bags instead of the 10 pound bag I normally buy and they were $3.99 a bag. They are changing everything it seems.

Thank you for the well wishes. I'm doing better but still have a long ways to go.

the thing on that list that kills me the most is the chicken hindqts. 10 pound bag for 7.90...OUCH I used to wait for a sale and stock up at 2.90 for the same bag!! That is almost 3 times higher!!!!
The last time I saw the bags for 5.90, I bout 5 bags. I still have a few left.....I'm hoping upon hope for a sale again!

A few years ago I used to stock up on potaotes at .99/10 lb bag. I mean they're potatoes, come on! 3.99 for 8 lbs! Good thing I put in a 50' row this year, they look good, hope they produce lots and lots.

I so agree! Just potatoes! That is what I always paid, but haven't seen that price in a very long time.

Intl mom I agree that is a ridiculous price. I've seen those things on sale for .29 cents a pound. Good gracious!

...and yes I use to buy potatoes for .99 cents for a 10 pound bag as well. Its crazy!

My mom was telling me that green beans are selling for $45.00 a bushel where she lives. That is just crazy! She grows her own and gave my a 5 gallon bucket full this week to put in my freezer. She said she would give me more when they come in again.

They have been going up here for a while now too. I have to eat a banana every day to keep my potasium up. Seems like everything is doubling at least.
