Tissues/TP? Which is cheaper?
Ok, a friend brought up a point to me... We've always had a box of tissues out in our home. She says that tp is cheaper to use instead of tissues. Has anyone figured this out? We pay about $6 for a pack of double roll tp and 1.41 for a 180 count box of tissues. How would these compare?
TIA

We only use tp and no tissue boxes. It's been some time since I compared the prices to the penny but tissues are costly even for the generic brands and I like buying double duty items.

This might be gross, but I use cloth and wash it. Sometimes I just grab something out of the laundry...gonna wash it anyways. Its nice and soft and I'm not wasting or paying to throw it away. I hate to pay for things where the end result is to throw it out. I haven't bought keleenix for years. I would guess TP would be cheaper though.

Not sure which is cheaper, but use tp as well. I also cut up old t-shirts to use as hankies. They are soft and washable. I cut a couple a little larger to use as sweat rags when working in the yard. They take up no room in the laundry and it's recycling!

I think to figure up the cost difference you would have to figure up how many squares you use each time to blow your nose and then count how many squares are on a roll. Divide the number of squares used by the number of squares on a roll. Then multiply that number by the number of rolls in the pack and divide by the cost of the package. Follow that?
I may just be curious enough later to unroll a roll of TP to find out
As it stands now you are paying 7.8 cents for each tissue. It is my guess that TP is way cheaper.
And who said I'd never use consumer math after I graduated college? lol

I'd think TP is cheaper. 'specially when you get it at someplace like sams club or costco (or their dot com versions.)

I just looked at the front of my Charmin and it said it has 154 sheets per roll. I figure I probably use 3 2 ply sheets per nose blow and the average 4 pack of Charmin is about $1.99. So with those figures it make each nose blow a penny each. That would make tissues 7 times as expensive.

It is cheaper because you already have the TP, you always use the bathroom. You don't always need kleenex. So you are saving the price of the kleenex all together. You must also be buying name brand TP. I can't bring myself to spend that much on TP knowing what it is used for.

I'm too tired to do the math at this moment, but I know that in my house tp is cheaper. I get a great price and I never find deals on tissues.

DH says TP is cheaper, and would always grab it vs. a tissue, but I only recently made the switch from buying tissues. I have tissue baskets(longaberger) that I keep tissues in. Someone on this site mentioned putting a roll of TP in a tissue box so I put my roll in my tissue basket. I lay it on it's side and start it through the hole and it works great! I've been on one roll now for about 2 weeks and I have prolly another 2-3, if not more left on the roll! I would have prolly went through 2-3 boxes of tissue, in same amount of time. It looks just like tissues are sticking out. You cant tell the difference at a glance.
I use Scott TP and the rolls are large
I had to roll a little off for it to start, so it would "roll", but I just put it on the top and used it first.

My husband will take a paper towel and blow his nose in it. Drives me nuts. I'm sure a paper towel is way more expensive than a tissue or toilet paper!!!!
