    Default Rising milk prices

Milk has jumped .70 in the last two weeks. I was getting a good deal at the convenience store. I was paying $2.99 when the store had store brand milk for almost $4.00. I was getting Colburg milk almost a dollar cheaper. It finally went up to $3.29 which still wasn't bad at all for many weeks. Then about two weeks ago it went up .50 to $3.79, and now today it is $3.99. It sure is rising fast in price.

How about milk in your area?

I paid $3.99 today. It's normally $3.89 at my grocery store, but I went to a different store to get cheap veggies and I didn't want to make two stops. The grocery store I normally go to also has a 2/$5.29 deal, but you have to buy two and we can barely get through one. And I don't have the room in the freezer either. :/

My Dh works for a dairy where they process and deliver milk.
He said milk may go up to $5 a gallon here really soon. With the price of corn to the farmers are paying to feed the cows to the price of fuel to get it to the stores they just cannot keep it at the price it is now. Milk in my area is on sale a lot for $.250 a gallon. Aldis price this week is $2.49.
They also have a big contract that is coming due. They will have to up the price they are selling it to the stores for so that will increase the price also. Plus with schools starting here in about 5 weeks for us demand is going to go up and supply is going to stay the same.
I am out of milk in the freezer so I think I need to hit aldi's this week and get about 5 gallons. I have not been able to get any marked down milk at the grocery store for about 3 weeks now. I don't think they are marking it down as fast as they were. It used to have about 4 days before the sell by date when they would mark it down. Now I think it is like 2 days.

It has been so long since I paid attention to regular milk prices! I buy organic and pay $3.29 for 1/2 gallon! I'm hoping it doesn't go up too high!!

I have been buying yogurt and stopped buying milk. Since I have powdered milk I have been using that. I buy brick cheese when on sale and freeze it. Since I have a large amount of powdered milk on hand I will be using it from now on.

I haven't bought it in the 4 litre containers much, but I know that 2L cartons were going for 2.14 each here in Calgary.

I don't drink much milk, but have been going into our local Fareway on Mondays, and find milk marked down to $2/gallon or less after the weekend because it's close to date. They've been selling quarts at .75 if date is within a day. Sometimes chocolate milk is less than regular, so the kids get a treat.

I don't buy milk for me, but do for DBF. Last week we paid $2.79 for a gallon of 2%. We have a lot of cattle/dairy farms around, so I think we're lucky.
