We don´t tip here in Finland. Some people might give a coin or two in the restaurant or for the taxi driver, but it is not the norm. People get paid for their jobs properly and their salary does not base on tips. Taxi drivers for example generally earn very well here. Why should I tip someone who earns more than I for him doing his job?
If I were in a similar situation as the original poster, I would offer coffee or tea or a cold drink and something to eat for the workers. Not money.
But ofcourse, I understand that the situation is different for you. I just read an article about tipping in the US. It said that even 10% is considered an insult in most restaurants.
