Thumbs up Dryer broke-Electric bill went way down

Our electric bill went from $120/mo to $80/mo. My dryer broke and I've been drying all our clothes on the line outside and I didnt realize what a difference that made! I'm not replacing the dryer anytime soon!

    Just wanted to share!

Wow... what a difference... $40. Now I know why I'm not going to break my neck trying to find a dryer. I think I'll continue to line dry them (unless I find a used dryer really really cheap and then I'll only use it in an emergency or when the weather gets colder this winter.
    Thanks for the info.

Wow what a big difference! Our washer and dryer haven't been hooked up at the new house yet, but once they are I plan on line drying most of our clothes.

I sold my old dryer when I moved versus moving it across the U.S. When I moved into my new place I did not buy one. I line dry everything and my total bill for electricity is very low. YIPPEE for you!

We aren't allowed to have clotheslines in our neighborhood, but I do sometimes hang clothes in our (master) bathroom. I bet we'd save a ton if I could hang it all outside!

    Good for you!

Oh, yeah! I've always hung our clothes out - something mom did so I did too - so I have no idea how much it saves us, I just know it does. That's a great savings in exchange for a little exercise

wow, $40 is a great savings. I hang my clothes almost year round (only use dryer during long boughts of rain or extreme cold) and I knew it was saving some, but never realized it could add up to that much!

That makes sense. A long time ago (about 10 years now) when I decided to be more frugal and hang dry half my laundry, I saved $20cdn/mth without even trying that hard.
