Default Do you think that this could happen here in the U.S.?

Dropped in Millennium-Ark this morning as every morning to read what is going on around the world. This article from Great Britian caught my interest. do you think that this could happen here with our food supplies? Can the government stop grocery stores from having specials?

Yeah, it could happen, because we have a growing population that believes the Government's job is to take care of us, and thus that Government would be justified in meddling like this "for our own good".
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I can see this happening very easily here in the US. As Greebo said, more and more people are turning to the gov't to take care of us and basically to "parent" us.

I hope not. It isn't the governments business to regulate our buying or their selling.

To be fair, i don't think it'll even happen here in the UK. We've been hearing news like this on an almost daily basis for the last 15 years.

The last prime minister didn't see it through, so i'm certainly not worried about this one, who hasn't got even half the backbone of the last PM. lol

I don't think that any gov't in North America or in Britain or Europe will stop sales in stores, however I do think there's a lot of food waste in society and that needs to be addressed. Too many people have a mindset where they "won't" eat leftovers,
only use particular parts and dispose of the rest, (ie. Chicken breasts only, but not the rest of the chicken) and simply prepare too much food. I think it's rather a given that on the whole, we waste too much, and our disposable society creates problems. That's why we must spread the word of frugal fabulousness

I don't think it will. All they are proposing in rewording the marketing of the sale, not abolishing sales. Instead of seeing 5/$1 they want to see 20 cents each.
I don't see how it would make any difference in availability of food to the hungry in other parts of the world.

    Unhappy

I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me.
