Talking One of my few "unfrugal" vices broke...

My poor portable dishwasher tanked. Goodbye dishwasher! It was one of the few things that I wanted to get away from, use less water handwashing dishes. But it was just so tempting and convenient sitting there calling my name when I had dirty dishes!

So, I guess there is the problem solved! Now, I must handwash dishes! I'm going to turn into the dishes police now, though! I'll be yelling at the kids every time they get out a new glass for water! I think I will assign them a glass each day, so they aren't using tons!

My dw only uses between 3-6 gallons, and no way I could do dishes several times a day for that. Why does everyone think DW's are evil???

I hope you can find a replacement one for a good price soon.

Mine, too, stinkbug. I also program it to run during the night when usage rates are lower. So, for us, they aren't evil I'll never get rid of it I really hate washing dishes by hand!

We are a family of 5 and i love my DW so much that we put everything in it and run it at night and open it to dry up. BUT, I'm still policing them, just one glass a day and they are color coded so I know who's using more. I hope you can find a new one at a reasonable price.

My dw is very efficient and add that I rinse almost nothing, run it during the night using the 4 hour delay option and air dry. I always feel very good about running it once every 3-4 days (only 2 of us here now). I make my own dw detergent that I use 1/2 and half w/liquid Cascade b/c using it by itself was leaving my glasses milky....plus I use vinegar as the rinsing agent. All in all very frugal and much more frugal for us than hand washing (plus I'm lazy.....lol).

I've been handwashing our dishes for about two years now.. It's a pain in the booty if you skip a night, hehe.. Definitely 1 glass a day.. my kids only have one cup a day.. sippy cups, but still.. PAIN!

Oh well.. I can't stand my dishwasher.. eventually I want a new one.. a GOOD one

I wash dishes at least twice a day after meals, and DH sort of got on me about the way I let dishes go between washings. I bought a scrub pad/sponge on a wand with the top being able to be opened to put in more soap, and I use that after we use a dish. I'm starting to work on not drawing a sinkful of water every single time I do the dishes, and that's my frugal vice.

The kids use up so many cups during the day but I do keep one in the half bath and they drink out of that when they want water. If they want milk, I have them put their cup on the counter and then I rinse it out for them. I keep track of who uses which cup.

Washing dishes is my way of relaxing.

my dishwasher is named mikala and sierra.

when i cook, they do dishes, when bryanna cooks, then i do dishes. when kala and sierra cook, then bryanna and i do the dishes.

we have a dishwasher, but we only use it a couple of times a week. mostly on the weekends. because dh works second, we do them by hand.

The only reason ours was "evil" is because it was an older one. We actually tracked the water usage last year and it used 11 gallons per wash, so it was a little ridiculous. And when I do dishes, I don't fill the sink, and dont use much water to rinse...so it saves lots of water!

I priced out a new part for it, and it was about $50. So we might fix it eventually, but not for a while.

I don't mind hand washing the dishes, I just try to wash after every meal. Except today was rough, becuase we ate 3 meals, plus I canned 9 jars of jam (in two cycles, to fit them into my stock pot) and baked 3 loaves of bread. So I had extra dishes today!

Only speaking for myself, of course, but my dishwasher is far more efficient than doing them by hand.

Well see how it goes for you. If you can't take start looking for a replacement at least you still have options.

Sorry to hear about the dishwasher but your not alone. Mine shot craps last Saturday, after I made my first batch of homemade dishwasher soap! Then the air conditioner died on Friday!!! I think its a tie on who I'm gonna miss the most...... Nah..... definitely the AC. Got up to 100+ outside was 89 in the house.
