I did our supply shopping
School start Auguat 25th.
Well I got my walmart circular and they had some great prices so I told the dds to get ready we were going as the sale is almost over.
Well it was $107total for 2 dds BUT I can explain!
1. I have a dd12 who is starting 7th grade so we are talking notebooks for every class BUT I saved $6 using the sale prices.
2. Glue was so cheap I just grabbed 10 double sticks and 5 bottles and spent $2. We have a supply box we use all year so not going to waste there.
3. I went ahead and picked up paper--it was so cheapppppp.
Oh we had markers already--6 packs lol! and I did get dd12 a huge count map colors so that was $6 for map colors alone.
4. I bought a bunch of spirals--dd12 doesn't get her list until the first day of school and no way am I going to be in that mess at the store first day of scool. Buy now, pay less and NO ONE was shopping the supplies at all. We had it to ourselves with a great selection.
I stocked up on highlighter, pens, pencils, glues, paper, spirals, folders, notebooks,I found a protractor--can you beleive it??
Now for my other dd20--she is a JR in College so her stuff was different apart from the normal stuff she needed sticky notes and sticky arrow notes, tacks and paper clips, copier paper in white and colors(she is a grapic artist, phography major)and other off the wall adult items.
dd12 wants to reuse her bookbag from last year.
We also still had some supplies in our box.
So it was about $53 each dd.
I really did stock up. I feel good about it. I can't imagine what dd12 could possible need. I even got 2 four packs of kleenex!Last edited by Cricketlegs; 07-25-2008 at 01:01 PM.

Sounds wonderful. I have started also but I bought along and along last school year. When a child needed more paper i already had some but when I was in town I stopped by and got more. etc. I hate crowds and school supply shopping is the worst.

I agree it is the worst when everyone in town needs the last pack of red pens.
That is why I bought so much more than I needed..to stock up the supply box. Last year all I had to buy extra was a few poster boards(we have some here left over) and some expensive scrap book paper in a block that was military style for a group project. DD is in the gift and talented class and they do alot of extra out of the box assignments. I didn't have to buy the paper but dd wanted it and her teacher sure did send a great thank you note home for it. She was really glad to get it.The math never lies, budget in INK!

Wow you spent alot but you did good! I am a cheapo my DD needs a 1 subject notebook for each class (7) and I have tons of stuff that a friend gave me last year... markers, pens, pencils, paper, paper clips, etc... So I only have to purchase the notebooks and a folder or 2...
I got her 3 folders at a yard sale for $1

It sounds like you did well...
If you have a Walgreen's (not OP, but anyone) check out this week's flier. They have a lot of stuff for 5 cents and BOGO. I got 3 bags of folders, pens, paper and notebooks for the girls for less than $15. It was very good!

those school supply lists get longer and longer! I think you did great to stock up now while everything is on sale... they will surely need more later and the prices will be higher.
I recently picked up some things at goodwill that were overstocked and donated by a local supply company. ten one subject spiral notebooks for 90 cents, we are reusing last year's pencil box and backpack but they had some of these as well, the pencil boxes new overstocked, the backpacks used but in good repair.

Walmart usually has the lists out now but our school web page has a print out for each grade up to 7th(which is why I don't have a list for dd12).
We were able to purchase from the school last year and that was nice but not the older grades so....try the school web page. The math never lies, budget in INK!

I have been buying for my DD and she's not even home from her dad's yet. LOL She doesn't come back until 8/5. I got her the spiral notebooks for .05 and 3 ring binders for like $2.50 each/one bigger and it was only like $2.75. She had requested ones with designs on it or I would have only spent $2 each. She doesn't ask for much so I figured I could let her have this request. I got markers, glue sticks, mechanical pencils (another request).
I haven't picked up notebook paper yet cause I thought it might come cheaper than the .50 per pack at my Walmart. Anybody seen that for less yet?
OP - you did good though. I also try to keep extra supplies for the school year. This past year my DD helped do a "school store" and I was able to donate crayons - had got for .12 each pack and I donated 10 packs. We still have at least 25, maybe even 30.

What you said about the notebooks I can understand. I did get dd12 two fun spirals and the big map colors were more than I would have paid but sometimes they are so good and go along with what you ask you need to reward them a bit I think.
