    Default Cheap Checks?

Has anyone here ever bought checks from a check service off of the internet? What was your experience? We need new checks and spending $3.99 sounds a lot better than spending $14.99 at our bank....

I've used all of them at some point....you get great first time customer discounts, really deep discounts. I order from one company and then the next time from another company till I've gone thru them all. By the time I get around to ordering from a company a second time, they have either lost track that I have ordered before, or I;ve moved, or they just give me the first time discount again. I have NEVER paid full price for checks.

Me too! I've done the same thing. Make the circuit with the check companies and you'll never pay full price!

As a bank employee, please please please let me offer a word of caution! Cheap checks are GREAT! But when you get checks (whether from a bank or a different company!) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE inspect the documents for accuracy.

If you order checks thru the bank and there's an error resulting in fees, etc. the bank is likely to refund the fees due to the error with their check printing company as well as reorder checks at no charge. If you order checks thru another company and there's an error, I can about 99.9% guarantee the bank will not refund any fees.

Just consider this my PSA: INSPECT YOUR CHECKS FOR ACCURACY.

P.S. (the only reason I order checks thru the bank is b/c as an employee I get them free!)

Mrs McDowell is right......I was a manager of our local bank branch before kids.....you do have to inspect for accuracy
    BUT
that does not in any way mean that you should not order cheap checks. Yup, I got mine for free when I worked for the bank, but as soon as those were up, I started playing the cheap check game.
Never had a problem. But if you ask at the bank, they wil give you the "you should only order checks from us" song and dance....I'm sorry, but Harland checks are insanely expensive..who in their right mind would actually pay full price for them?? umm, not me!

fyi - if there IS an error on your checks, contact the company you ordered them from. I had this happen once, and they corrected it for free, no problem!!

I've ordered and used the mail order checks and never had a problem. But now with on-line banking, I only write about 1 check a month. So I probably have enough paper to last me until old age!

Agree with IntlMom. I have ordered checks through these companies for years and never had a problem.

Well, now I do write way less checks thanks to the computor.

But some things I do write checks for.

The only reason I am so cautious is...it's not always this easy.

We had a customer who set up her direct deposit using a check that had a misprint on the account number--her direct deposit went into the wrong account. We couldn't just switch the funds b/c the other customer had spent the money. It wasn't our error so that bank wasn't obligated to give her provisional credit. The check company wouldn't step in b/c she hadn't inspected for accuracy as instructed to do. And her company's HR couldn't do anything to help her on a Friday night and as far as they were concerned, she had been paid based off of the info she gave them. It was a mess.

I'm NOT saying that bank checks don't come with errors. They do!

All I am saying is INSPECT ANY CHECKS YOU ORDER FOR ACCURACY!

If I didn't work at the bank and get free checks, I'd order the cheapies too. THey are usually cuter anways.

I use to mail order the cheaper checks from the circular in the Sunday grocery ads. I order them online from the same companies now. If your uncomfortable with ordering online though you can probably find ine from one of the companies in the paper tommorrow.

Here too. And going through that cycle of companies takes a while for me now these days because I don't write that many checks any more.

I have ordered from Current and Artistic Checks. Inspection is VERY important and the companies will fix any errors in printing. We don't use many checks now - do everything with debit cards and online, so I think we have enough checks to last a while.

Don't forget Colorful Images. They have some nice checks, too. I look over them to make sure the information is correct.

I ordered checks once through Quicken - I'm leery about ordering checks from a company not at least affiliated with a company I trust.

But I'd take the good experiences of the FVer's as sufficient endorsement to trust a company I wasn't sure about otherwise.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
