Default Have you ever wanted to do something but thought it might be dumb

So you did talk to your dh about it and THEN you find out you were right on the money--literally?

My dh is the parts manager at the local chevy dealership. HE has a company shirt uniform he buys himself in assorted colors--a button down dress shirt and he wears wranger dress pants in assorted colors and wranger jeans.

We buy them ourself and as dh is 6'6 and weighs about 250 I always pay extra to get the length we need--his waists are 38 so that is never a problem.

Anyway--I keep thinking I want to get an iron press and start laundering his clothes myself but I don't want the smaller $100 from walmart. I want the bigger Singer from Hancocks for $250--I can also use it for our clothes and my quilting and pressing curtains and sheets etc.

I thought--gee that is alot of money. Dh won't go for that. I would need to save my allowance for it-which I am willing to do.

Then I saw the singer in the circular and I juse got brave and asked dh how much his dry cleaning was a month---he said about $100 a MONTH!

It isn't in my budget because it comes out of the checks before I get them.

So I spilled my guts lol.

We have to wait until dh has his work meeting Monday--there may be something bad coming--but he said sure, no problem as long as I didn't mind the extra work, he didn't want to saddle me with it but heck I don't mind.

1200.00 a year or $250--can't beat that math! Sure I know I will be pulling some electricty but I still come out way ahead.

Anyone else sometimes have an idea they have doubts about but realise it IS a good idea?

I can't think of any times personally right now but I did want to say that most of the time putting your idea out there is better than keeping it to yourself.

Good luck on your new machine and on fixing his pants. Also, you can do more than just his pants - maybe you can even offer to do things like that to others and make yourself some $$$.

That happens to me a lot, not just with DH, but with others too. Maybe we both need to have a bit more faith/confidence in ourselves and our ideas.

I would also be doing his shirts--the whole thing saving me a complete amount of the dry cleaning bill.

Wow! Great idea! DonnainME is a thinker too... I wonder how long it will take to do the pressing and if it would be some fairly easy money to take in others' clothes too.

Just wanted to say I'm glad you did ask and come up with that because that is an amazing savings. Another idea since you are going to be doing it anyway is if you need to make a few dollars maybe you could have your husband ask around some of his work friends who might want to save a few dollars themselves and you charge them for cleaning and pressing their clothes but at a bigger discount than $100.00 a month. That could certainly bring in some extra income.

I wanted to try out MagicJack for voip phone service. I thought it would be dumb.

After 3 months of tech support chats, phone calls, equipment changes, etc, I gave up.

    Getting MagicJack really was dumb.

At least you tried it. NOW you know - it doesn't work for you. BUT what if it was the best thing since sliced bread and you never did try it.

At least you learned ONE WAY that didnt work.

Default tax deduction for uniform mtnce

Does he wear his uniform only for work? If so you can deduct the price of his uniforms and all cleaning. If a job requires a specific uniform that can't be worm under normal conditions to other places, like nurse scrubs and most mechanic uniforms too, then you can deduct it on your taxes. Keep the receipt for the steamer for your taxes!

Now I can't wait to see if I can go get it. Tomorrow is dh meeting and if he is changing jobs it will mean a pay cut so I need all my pennies right now and won't buy until I know we are okay.

I feel like I have been on a slow train to Panicville!

I do hope your DH doesn't get a pay cut.

Right now we're trying to either get Dh disability or a job that he can do. It's hard with only having a SMALL income and it's based on sales come in.

    Good Luck
