Grocery prices going up again.......
I saw on CNN this morning that grocery prices are getting ready to take another big hike! It said the average family of four would now spend an extra 1200.00 annually! WOW!
This is due to the high cost of corn and other grains. They said that this high cost is also making meat farmers cut back on their stock which means less meat for consumers, so higher prices! UGH!S

Yea, well, THIS family won;t be spending an extra 1200.00 a year........ a little increase yes, but no way and extra 100 bucks a month! But most of us at least know how to deal with rising pricess, it's the "average" consumer who has not clue, ...... will this never end?

Dang! I understand the farmer's cutting back. Feed cost are crazy!!! We've got goats, rabbits and chickens and have really been trying to downsize. I've gotten rid of at least half my bunnies and at least a third of my flock of chickens. The goats will be the last to go.
Our garden is doing pretty good right now. We've picked squash and beets yesterday. The corn is really starting to look good. Still haven't had any ripe tomatoes. We got a late start......
Guess I need to stock up more on my basics.

And Here I was thinking at the store today that prices seemed to be coming down.

Unbelievable!

Something I normally buy for $2.49 went up to
$2.99. $.50 jump. Just unreal." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. I have noticed that the whole wheat pasta jumped from $1.50 to a $2 - $2.50 at our local store - stocked up , got tons of that for now at a sale i saw for 99 cents. went to buy flour & there was even a noticed pinned up about the rising cost - the store apologizing for it. small bag of flour was over $4 .. unbelieavable ... bread is $1.99 here .. wonder how high that will go now too!!

After my trip to Walmart & the grocery store this week, I can really see the increases! 8oz Kraft chunk cheese $2.50 at Walmart, unbelievable. The price at the grocery store... wait for it $$$$3.36 or something like that! I was so shocked I can't even remember the exact price. Had to block it out so I could continue shopping. I did buy the store brand 16oz $4.62 & plan to buy extra when/if it goes on sale. Spend an extra $50 a month (only 2 adults here) if I don't plan ahead would be so easy at these prices!
May Groceries $238/250 Pet Supplies $111/125
Coupons $50.08
April Groceries $253/250 Pet Supplies $109/125
Coupons $34
Coupon Saving 2012 $165.61
2011 $376.25

Store sales aren't even good anymore. A lot of the stores here have mostly "Everyday Low (NOT!) Price" items featured in their weekly flyers.

I agree it takes a lot more planning, and our eating habits and meals have definately changed. We eat less cheese, meat, powdered milk, less cereal (more oatmeal), we are eating a lot of beans, rice, potatoes, and noodles. I just had to have some sweetcorn I saw at the store yesterday and I payed .48 cents an ear (I only bought 3). I wanted to buy hubby a few treats this time because he has been working so hard and ended up paying about $20 for three six packs of his non-alcohlic beer, a package of 2 turkey thighs(for his smoker) and container of Carmel ice cream. I told him to enjoy and we will be having beans and weinees for dinner tomorrow night (he said great, I love that....what a sweetie). I guess we are all going to have to get even more creative with these prices, but at least we have each other to get us threw.

This is interesting. DH and I went shopping this week and only purchased stuff on sale or stuff we were out of. Fruit was a good deal for us this week. We bought blueberries, pears, plums and nectarines...all fairly cheap. But then there was the butter - 2 lbs./$7. And the ice-cream - $8 for two types (mine is really expensive).
We've been avoiding buying bread at the regular grocery store. I might have to break down and buy a loaf to get me through the weekend. I don't have the car to get to the Discount Bakery today.
I'm fairly well stockpiled on some things - ground beef, flour and rice. But when I do have to go back to the store for them, I'm sure there's going to be considerable sticker shock.

I agree, pasta is a killer now and it used to be a frequent low cost meal in our house. Last year we could buy for .77 cents now nothing under 1.67 (on sale)!! My stockpile has taken a beating, items we use don't seem to be coming around in sales as often and I probably resisted buying in the beginning thinking the prices would be coming down. I think I'm going to have to start a new price book...

I've also noticed that some of the items that used to go on sale every 6 weeks to 2 months are not lately.
