Default Incoming mom visit + my frugal menu!

Wow, I'd make her so proud...and I'm gonna do it while she's here.

Her flight lands Tuesday evening and I'm so stoked because I haven't seen her in almost six years! We had already planned on taking her out a couple times and she wants to treat us, so what we're doing is making a partial menu like normal and then we're picking up the stuff she can't get back in NY. This is stuff like donairs, A&W, Dairy Queen, Peter's Drive Thru, Joey's Only, etc. I want to show her the fast food and restaurant food here is way better than it is in NY.

Anyways onto the menu part, I sat down and looked at this week's flyer from Superstore. It happens to be my shopping weekend and they have a deal that if you buy $200 in groceries then you get 25 cents off your next purchase of gas. Gas has gone down to about 1.229 per litre here but an extra 25 cents off would be wicked on our budget. I still plan on using out of my stockpile and here's my dinner menu:

Meatloaf (one with and one without onions - both kids hate onions in their meatloaf) and fried potatoes- enough to make two meals
Beef stew - makes two meals
Beef stroganoff - makes two meals
Beefy cheese and mac - makes two meals
Mushroom swiss burgers and pasta salad
Leftover pasta salad and bbq chicken

That's ten nights worth of dinners. The best part? Each meal with the exception of the beef stew is almost completely out of my stockpile. I plan on using the rest of the money to stockpile my tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili beans, etc for the winter menu. For instance, the meatloaf I have all of the ingredients for but I just need to buy the potatoes (and they're on sale, 10# for 3.48 this week). With the beef stroganoff, I just have to buy the beef. I have all of the stuff for the beefy cheese and mac, plus the mushroom swiss burgers. I'll basically be looking at spending probably $160 on the stockpile and $80 on actual groceries for the dinners.

I know we'll probably break the bank with fast food and eating out while she's here, but I don't care...this is special! She's also offered to help pay for stuff while here, so that's taken care of.

Sounds like you have a great menu plan in place for the visit.

Looks great! Enjoy your time with your mom. I know she'll be more interested in visiting with you than what she eats where.

Enjoy your time with your mom. The menu looks great. I feel there are times when you have to go a little overboard with the budget. I would think this is a good time!
