Do you feel you inherited your frugality or
It came easy to you or it was something you had to learn and it was tough.
I think I might have inherited most of mine. My great grandmother along with my grannie and my mom all were frugal to some extent. My dad was frugal to the point of being miserly. He would drive 5 miles to save 5¢.
How about you, inherited, came naturally or had to learn it?

Had I lived solely with my mom, it would be natural. However when she had a stroke at 50 (I was 10) I went to live with my sister. She is frugal now but then, she beleived the lie "the more $$ the better quality"
So i am relearning what should have been my natural behaviors. Make sense?

I am still learning! When I was growing up, we got what we wanted. We were spoiled children to say the least. I have always done the same to my own children because that is how I was taught, but about a year ago all that changed when I came across some frugal sites and now I am learning new ways of living.

My parents were never and still are not frugal. Mom acts like she is, but trust me she's not! My parents have filed for bankruptcy twice in 10 years!
I gave her the TG books to read but she just made fun
. I'm not frugal myself, because I do a lot of things they do, but I am trying to break those habits, and be more frugal.

Although I come from frugal people- my great-grandmother raised her family of 8 on very little money, it kind of stopped with my mother. So, I'm still learning at age 45!

I don't ever remember my mom using coupons. But we always ate at home...never had take out.She shopped yard sales, thrift shops etc.So I suppose I inherited a lilttle from her.
After all the kids had moved out,her and my dad ate out, went on vacations etc....I've been on ONE vacation and that was in 1999,we went to Gulf Shores, had a blast, but haven't been able to afford it since lol Or maybe being frugal,I don't want to spend that much money in a few days again.....

I grew up on welfare, so it comes naturally to me. My paternal grandmother raised 18 (yes, EIGHTEEN) kids with vey little cash, so I think it's genetic! LOL Dh, OTOH, was not raised to be frugal. His parents are careful with their money, but they get what they like/want. DH and his sister were raised in a very affluent town (new cars fro the kids the day they turn 16, etc.), but they got cars that didn't run and had to help get them running.
My sister and I are forever grateful that we were taught by a master tightwad--MOM. By the time were were 12 and 10, we were better shoppers than our dad. Mom would send him to the store with the last moeny we would have (it would be the 20th or so of the month) to get milk and bread and he'd come back with milk and bread...and steak! My sister and I would carefully check all the prices and come home with the best deal even then. By the time we were both 10, we were the masters of finding the best candy deals for a nickel!
I strayed from the frugal path when DH and I were both working full time, but have swung back now that we're parents. To me, it's more important to be home, guiding and teaching our boys than it is to eat at McDonald's every Friday night or to have the latest jeans.

Inherited and natural!!! My mom was 1 of 6 kids and grandma was frugal, growing up my mom used coupons but I never thought a thing about it.In 1996 I inherited her thrifty homemade coupon box(old shoe box with files)I was so excited.Since then she has helped me make my own (much bigger than hers) and i am now the family"Coupon Queen"LOL
Just the otehr day DS6 said"Mom I hate your coupons"I told him"those coupons fed you for a long time!!" His reply"well ok then"

Inherited it, with 5 kids to feed my mom did pretty darn good. She was the one who let me know that money did not grow on trees and that she was not the Bank of AMerica, even though it felt like it!
