    Default Any foragers out there?

This summer I have added many new fruit tree to my 'adopted orchard' that others planted then abandoned.

I got 3 mulberry trees, 4 apple trees. 4 big juicy Europeans and seckel pear trees, an apricot tree, 2 peach trees, a cherry tree, 7 black walnut trees, 3 pawpaw trees.

Also some wild brambles, herbs like purslane and dandelion, some Jap knotweed and many nut trees like butternut and hickory. Also tons of wild grapes...but never find any grapes on them.

If you forage, how has it been going for you?

We found a patch of little wild blackberries here....picked over 8 gallons of them. We will be picking mushrooms here as soon as the weather turns.

I am too scared to forage, can't think of any fruit trees in my neck of the woods that don't belong to some one, I would die if someone caught me....

when we were kids we used to forage for macadmia nuts that had fallen over our side of the fence from next doors tree though.

There are mulberry trees galore but I'm not that fond of them. Black raspberries, greens (dandelions, lamb's quarter) I don't even have to leave the yard for. Black walnuts are everywhere in the fall. I found some wild strawberries. Not many but very good and I got transparent apples off a tree at the park. The town said ok.

We glean potatos here. After the harvest is over the farmers allow church groups and families to glean their fields. I know many families who live off their gleanings for an entire winter.

Is it foraging if you arrange to pick someone else's fruit over the internet...for free? I do that a lot. Plus people bring me fruit from their trees/bushes for free. I guess real foraging is out in the wild picking...I don't do that now. Used to do it a lot as a kid though. Not sure of good places to go here. Really, the only fruit that grows wild here would be saskatoons and rose hips.

We have one orange tree and one grapefruit tree. They are in our yard so that might not count.

I would like to get a mango and an avocado tree.

Blackberries is all I do. I did it as a kid and still love to do it.

I don't know why but it is so fun lol.

Then I wash them and freeze them.

Once my sister and I picked apples from a lot where the house had burned down behind where we lived and we made an apple pii and I have never had an apple pie that tasted so good.

I have seen some trees like that too. Sometimes I take a handful of mulberry, but try to stay out of peoples yards. I came across a giant pear tree, but it was in someone yard. Keep looking you may find some stuff. Or if you see the fruit falling down ring the door bell and ask if you can have some.

I just learned about mulberry this year. Wish I had some now to try with vanilla ice cream. Was told it was great. Why don't you like them?

Will check out lambs quarters. Do no know what it looks like. do you eat it raw?

    Transparent apples? What are they?

I'll only forage if I am certain it is okay to do.

This past week I went to Bar Harbor, ME and drove up Cadallac Mtn for the sunset - and was informed that the wild blueberries were in need of foraging... I helped the rangers a lot!

is the poster of the woman from when they used to have victory gardens during the war time? I read a magazine, Reminisce and people talk alot about the victory gardens they planted or their parents and grandparents planted.
