My kids school lunches have NOT gone up in price. It is $1.00 a day, and is a pretty well balanced meal. There are only a few days a week that either of my kids actually eat at school, they have me pack them a lunch more then the eat one at school.

I have two children in school and the price for lunch went up for one child, but not the other. The cost only went up by .15, which I guess isn't so bad.

Our lunch prices went up 50 cents for each level. So elementary was $1.50 is now $2.00. Middle school is now $2.10. We are also being told by the school that these prices are ONLY approved for the first nine weeks. Then they are going to re-evaluate and decide if they should raise them again.

When you stop to consider that school lunches in my area cost $1.25 way back in 1981 the increases are nothing to complain about actually. JMHO

Middle school is $1.45 and elementary is $1.40. Both are the same as last year. Our lunches are ok. Not super healthy, and not complete junk either. My kids can buy 2x a week, and then pack the rest of the time. So far, they are both ok with it.

we dont have a school canteen here, I have to say though that I dont think thats too bad a price, I pack lunches and snack items ( the school have a healthy eating policy so you can pack any food and drinks that are Junk) and would spend just slightly less that amount a day

I don't even know how much it costs in our school. My dd prefers to carry her lunch daily, which is, I'm sure alot cheaper for us.

Free lunch here. Good warm lunch + bread, milk, salad or vegetables. Never junk food.

DS is 17...he has the option to buy school lunch if he wants to pay for it. What I pack is so much better than the crap they serve anyway. I think he is one of the only ones that packs his lunch-his friends don't care-in fact most love all of his homemade goodies.

Neely, I saw your avatar, are you also in Tennessee?
As for your post, my two kids went back to traditional school this year as well, after homeschooling for the past 6 years.
I agree about the High School lunch thing. When my kids were younger, I packed their lunches everyday except pizza/hamburger day.
But this time around, they both wanted to eat in the cafeteria.
Our lunch menu looks alot like yours.
Usually burgers, pizza, steak nuggets, fajitas, ham & cheese subs, etc.
Oh & we pay $1.50 for both middle & high school lunches here.
My 15 ds. did say that he could get a larger milk for additional .50, but he usually doesn't get it.
I throw in the extra money at the beginning of the week if he wants it, but usually at the end of the week, he always brings back the extra quarters and deposits them into my quarter jar.Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...

Luckly we get the free breakfast and lunch at the kids school. I love it b/c it is 2 solid healthy meals a day. Normally breakfast will be eggs/pancakes/ceral/fruit. Lunch is either a sandwich or a hot meal(pizza 1xweek, hamburgers, tacos, shepards pie, stir fry ect) and a piece of fruit and a veggie.
SO I know between breakfast and lunch they will have at least 1 serveing of veggies and 2 serveings of fruit

I'm not sure yet. They start 2 weeks from tomorrow, and usually a week before classes start, they send home the teacher's name and other info. I have a feeling they will increase it from $1.75 to $2.00 (hot lunch) and milk from $0.40 to $0.50.
