    Default Spending to save

I just ordered my 12 year old dd a $400 sony cyber shot for her birthday--why you might ask???!

I'll tell you why, she is on the yearbook staff and I don't want my $1100 Cannon Rebel to be floating around the JR HIGH!

Her teacher was giving her all kinds of tips so it wouldn't get stolen even though I was already concerned enough!

Her teacher was very excited about my camera..sorry teacher lol it is mine and it is staying at home with me.

I did tell dd she could take the rebel to the football games.

The thought of someone stealing my camera makes me sick. I love my camera.

Luckily for me I still have points(how I got my rebel, dds 20 rebel and dd12 sony--all for free) so I didn't have to pay cash for it and as I said it is her birthday(early I know lol) present so I wanted to get her a nice one that she wanted.

    Ships in 2-3 days.

I was saving my points for a projection home theater system.....and we don't think dh is getting anymore points now that he isn't parts manager and took the promotion to production manager.

They give them off past months so I just may manage to get enough off his incoming back points. It would be so much fun to put the picture on the wall and watch BIG harry Potter lol.

My dds and I are big movie watchers.

My dh said isn't the 50 inch plasma enough and I said NOOOOO we need bigger!

But I hijack my own thread.

Anyhoo....sometimes you have to spend money(or points) to save money and sanity!

Cricketlegs -- that is where your frugality pays off -- you are able to spend dollars or points on an item that makes sense for you and your family. Way to go!!!

Plus, I'm sure your dd is thrilled with her b-day gift!

    Call it "insurance"
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I'm about to do something very similar. Spend money to save money. Will be replacing a car I pay a monthly bill for, with a cheap car I'm going to pay cash for. Should cut out a pretty significant monthly bill.

Also, buying a freezer is an added expense(this is an example I already have one)but one that pays off in the long run.

So was my iron press. I paid $279 for it total but already I am up 48x2.50= $120 in the first month. I have done 24 shirts and 24 jeans or pants this month. Once it pays for itself I am in the black on it and reaping the rewards of my labor.

And lets not forget the stockpile--you invest money to save money.
