Default How have you saved today, money ,time, or both?

Today I sliced up1.95 lbs of blade steak for steak fingers for dinner. They were on quicksale yesterday so I needed to freeze or cook them. I paid $3.82 - the original $7.74 sticker price--yeah me.

Then I peeled and french fried 5 potatoes--I am trying to get away from freezer potato products.

Then I had left over chicken and veggie algraten so I mixed it in with the dogs food to make the pet food go one more day so I could wait and go to the store for dogfood tomorrow. My dog has an allergy so I need to buy the same food everytime. I also drive by my grocery store twice a day as dds school is on the same road just across the street really so that really cuts my time and gas. I popped in yesterday at 7:45 am and no one was there and I was in and out. This will also work well as they have gas pumps too, good gas prices and offer 5% off your grocery bill if you get $35 or more in one gas transaction--so great for the budget!

Next I had left over french bread pizza from last night--note to self--only make ONE loaf next time. There is a whole half loaf of pizza I fear will end up in the trash.

Went through deep freeze and planned 19 meals off what I had. I need to steal about half my grocery money for other things this next month so having meals for 19 dinners will go a long ways.

    Grocery budget--$300 September budget--$150.

Washed clothes in cold, dryer on low.

Washed, starched and pressed dhs work clothes--2 jeans and 3 shirts--saves me $12.50 off laundry service and goes to help pay off presser.

The day is still young..but I think I want a nap! LOL

I went to Borders to find a book... Think And Grow Rich. Found it, it was about $15. Then just casually looking around a little more, I happened to find another book which was actually 3 Napoleon Hill books all together for $16.95. So I got 3 books for about the price of the one I was originally going to purchase. Saved some money!

Spent $67 today at the thrift store. Found one coat, one jacket, 11 tops, four pairs of jeans, four pairs of dress pants, and two purses. Many items were new or 50% off. Everything looks new. That comes to less than $3 per item. Will be busy hemming pants this week.

I am trying to update my wardrobe and am excited about the deals.

    Saving time? Let's see:

I think the only thing I did was shred the rest of the mozzarella block, write the name of the cheese and date with a Sharpie on the Ziploc bag, and refridgerated it.

    I feel like a failure.

Saved money by having leftovers for supper, didn't run the washer or dryer today. Saved time by not doing the dishes... can you tell I'm having a lazy day.

Seriously though... the leftovers are "freezer stew" an idea dh resisted until he tasted the results the first time I tried it. A "Tightwad Gazette" idea that has you put all leftover vegetables in a bag in the freezer, when the bag is full, thaw, add meat and broth and voila... stew! Doesn't sound appetizing but this is how soups and stews were invented- by using every morsel of food. This particular stew has potatoes, cabbage, grilled onions, peas, corn, and green beans. I have 1/2 lb leftover hamburger browned w/ onions and some chicken stock from a chicken I roasted earlier in the week. A 100% free meal.

Hmmm??? I would have to say both..Here's one example.. by making my meals 2 days ahead of time..here's why I say this.. I work 2 days in a row every week..(I'm a CNA....aka a certified a$$ wiper or aka nurses aid) very backbreaking..mentally draining job..but I get very very good pay for working only 24hrs a week & a month's vacation a year..I've been there 14yrs)so anyways I always make 2 meals for those 2 working days in advance since I'm always tired and don't feel like cooking..I would rather do that then pay for takeout food..and I've been doing this for a couple of years now..it really works out great for me and my family and has saved me lots of $$...

    Today:

I washed clothes on cold and used the clothesline.
I walked to the library to pick up a book and get my manicure (a RARE treat).
Ate the free lunch at work. All other meals at home.

The kids and I made homemade pizza for dinner. I had everything we needed already in the house.

Hung two loads of laundry on the line.

That was pretty much it for today.

Tomorrow I am boiling a whole chicken.

Half will be chicken and dumplings and the other will be chicken casserole.

saved money -- didn't drive anywhere today, so I used no gas and didn't go shopping.

saved time -- by boiling some ground meat I had and got dinners ready for the week

    Today I ..........

will be staying home all day, saving gas and money!

doing laundy in cold water (except for the towels)

It's dd's first day of school and I always let them choose what they want for dinner. She chose fried chicken and crock pot mac and cheese. I dug through the freezer and found a pack of leg quarters to use instead of running out to buy some. I also shredded my own cheese for the mac and cheese.

Dh will take a chicken dinner for one meal to work tonight and leftover spaghetti for his other meal. Yesterday was ds's first day of school and he chose spaghetti for dinner LOL.

I make homemade biscuits for breakfast this morning and we have enough left for another two meals!

It's a dark, cold and rainy day here. Dh is asleep and it's just me and the 2 year old daycare boy. I have the lights all off LOL. There is enough light coming through the living room window for him to see to play!
