Default Q on accuracy of a test

ON - How accurate are pregnancy tests that you buy at the store? Would a dollar tree store test be less accurate than one you would buy at WM??

Please help. I'm a little concerned.

I know quite a few people who claimed that Dollar store Pregnancy tests aren't that good. If you are worried about it, I would use the money and buy an EPT or another namebrand from the drugstore.

I don't have the money to buy more tests. At the local grocery (small town) the tests are $10 each. I did buy 2 at the Dollar Tree earlier today. I took one as soon as we got home and will take the other in the morning. I have heard of people getting false negatives but not false positives.

If the one in the AM says Positive, I will call my dr on Monday.

false positives hardly ever happen unless u have an evaporation line rather then the actual test line. I know I am on a mommy board and a lot of them claim that the dollar tree ones are just as good as the others. Personally I used an expensive one when I got pregnant with DS and it came back negative yet i just KNEW i was pregnant, about 4 days after I was due to get AF I tested again and it was positive.

    Good luck.

I would check first thing in the morning like you are planning on doing. That is the best chance of any of the tests working properly since the stuff that the tests check for should be highest then.

Well the date on the box is 2010 so, It's well within it's date. It has the place where you put the urine then a place where it will show the lines. One like is like a standard line - IT WILL SHOW UP. If you see a second line below the first, it is a positive. You are supposed to read it within 1 and 4 minutes after you drop in the urine. I looked at it as I did the dropping and it came across to show the standard line. Then I looked back at it after 2 minutes or so and there was another line (a little lighter). I read the test box 3 times and it says ANY hint of a second line then it's a positive.

I do have another to do in the morning. And if it's +, I will call my dr on Monday.

    Thanks everyone.

I have heard they are just as accurate.

I hope it works out the way you want it to be.

OK, this I know about. A false negative is definitely a possibility meaning it could say all clear and you could be pregnant. A false positive is almost an impossibility. If it says positive you most likely are. Unless you wait more than 10 minutes to read the test. I hope for the best for you.

I've had a false positive once and it was a name brand test. It was one that you could check up to 4 days before you scheduled period. It was the first month we tried to get pg and I had only been off the pill for about two weeks or so.

The dr said the false positive was probably due to residual hormones still in my body....

I hope it all works out for you the way you'd like!

Pregnancy tests can record a false positive for a couple of different reasons... the main 2 are birth control pills and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)... So I wouldn't worry overly much unless you're actually a couple of days late!! Hope this helps!!

Wish I had your problem. Anyways, I know that the Dollar store tests are just as good as the more expensive tests. They are actually more sensitive than some name brand ones. If you want to get a more accurate reading, try a FRER (First Response Early Result). Let us know how it turns out.
