I went to Walmart to buy a new food processor
Mine is soooo old and doesn't do much at one time.
I get there and they have 3--$29.99 for an 8 cup black and decker
$39.00 for a 10 cup hamilton beach with twice the power
$59.99 for another hamilton beach-what the bigger pricetag was for I have no idea.
I looked, I read, I looked, I thought about it....
I went home empty handed......
LoL I couldn't decide which I wanted, if I needed more speed, I did like the bigger mouth but it wasn't all that big, the $59 one had a HUGE mouth, so I just left!
So now I have to make gallons of hot sauce with my old 21 year old ALMOND with faux wood grain--yes it is true---small mouth 8 cup food processor because I have lost the ability to turn loose the money.
Man I hate using that old thing and frankly besides the small mouth there isn't anything wrong with it(butt ugly doesn't count right? I keep it hidden away).
Such a pain, such a bother, already paid for......

lol I understand what you mean!
I'm the same way. I've gone shopping and actually left the cart with stuff in it (not food) cuz I feel guilty. LOL
however, if you _really_ need it... why not?
Just get one of the 29$ ones that suits your needs... or maybe check out a different store like WM... prices may be better on the same product.

Heh - way to go to recognize the lack of *need*
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

We got a Big Lots about 2 months ago and I am not sure about that store. I went Saturday to check out fall decorations and found that they were more expensive than either Walmart or Kmart. I looked through other things in the store and could not see any great deals. I will check it out a couple of more times but right now I am not impressed.

I completely understand what you are going through. I aquired my mothers Oster Kitchen Center after she passed -- she purchased it in either 1981 or 1983, can't remember at the moment but I do still have the receipt stapled to the manual. Now that I am doing so much more things from scratch I would love to get a new Kitchenaid, but just can't bring myself to spend the money.
The Oster still works okay, just not quite as powerful as I would like sometimes, plus mom had all the extra attachments for it (slicer/shredder, meat grinder, blender jar). I do have a nice cover for it so I can still have it out handy, but you can't see the ugly old thing.
On the plus side, one day when I was at a local Kitchen Collections store daydreaming about all the cool appliances, I got to talking with the owner of the store and she told me that she almost always has one in the back that maybe arrived scratched, or someone special ordered it and then changed their mind, whatever. Anyway, they still have full warranties etc and she generally sells them with a nice chunk of change knocked off the price. I believe the ones that are about $190-$200 she sells for about $150 if I remember correctly. So whenever mine finally croaks I will definetly go there to check on them.

If it isn't broken don't buy a new. But you can give the old a face lift. Say a new paint job.

Have you tried asking for one on freecycle or craigslist.
It cost nothing to post an ad, you never know you might get exactly what you want for nothing and then you can pay it forward with your old ugly one.Debra

I'm with the "if it works, it works" sentiment. Though, I do understand the "wanting something new".
I like the idea of giving it a "face lift". Could you get a real heavy duty (and washable) paint?
