Smile Book of Proverbs Frugal Lifestyle

I do a daily Bible reading and reflection. My mind has been on frugality lately and I've been concerned and praying about several people and their financial state. So imagine my thinking at today's reading.

    What do you think?

These are some selected verses from Proverbs 22:

    1. A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches

    7. The rich rules over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender.

    9. He who has a generous eye will be blessed, as he gives of his bread to the poor

    16. He who oppresses the poor to increase his own riches, and he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.

    22. Do not rob the poor just because he is poor, nor oppress the afflicted at the gate.

26-27. Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, one of those who is surety for debts. If you have nothing with which to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
    Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.

    Financial:
Debt free, hoping to stay that way!

From today's reading in Proverbs 23:

    4. Do not overwork to be rich

    5. Will you set your eyes on that which is not? Riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.
    Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.

I like the one about when you owe money, be like the gazelle from the cheetah. RUUUNNNNN!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Ah........ Greebo! I always look forward to your comments! Really, I do. (thought maybe my first line sounded satirical, but wasn't meant to be).

Anyway, I plan for the next several days to update this thread with some of the frugal lifestyle wisdom that I am finding in my readings. Feel free, anyone, to jump in and expound.

There is so much wisdom and Riches bestowed by reading the Bible.

The Proverbs women is like the ant and not the grasshopper.

"She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands." vs.13

"She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar." vs.14

"She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants." vs.15

God will always provide for those who believe in and worship him. Being wise with our money, and good stewards is so important.

    Great wisdom and post forhisglory.

    Today's wisdom, from Chapters 24 and 25:

    Chapter 24:
3-4: Through wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established. By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

30-34: I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; and there it was, all overgrown with thorns; its surface was covered with nettles; its stone wall was broken down. When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; so shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.

    Chapter 25:
8: Do not go hastily to court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor has put you to shame?

16: Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need....
    Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.

16: Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need....
As I am reading this, my heart is still racing from just recently getting of the treadmill trying to rid myself of the extra honey. Gluttony.....the forgotten sin.

Today's frugal wisdom from Chapters 26-29: (is it just me or do a lot of these sound like something we need to hear today about our economic fiasco?)

    Chapter 26:
27: Whoever digs a pit will fall into it

    Chapter 27:
1: Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth
12: A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself
23-24: Be diligent to know the state of your flocks and attend to your herds. For riches are not forever....

Chapter 28: (this chapter is FULL of advice, but I picked out just the following for this post....)
6: Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
8: One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion, gathers it in for him who will pity the poor.
19: He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!
27: He who gives to the poor will n ot lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

    Chapter 29:
2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.
    Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.

Debt free, hoping to stay that way!

Thanks, Aimeebee, for your work on this verse.

My personal translation is that those who get their riches at the expense of the poor will end up losing that money, and it will go to those who try to help the poor.

Now, talk about justice! So, are the folks who absconded with huge bonuses, but didn't really earn them, similar to the first person in the verse? Ah...... my bias is showing.....

I really like this one and have always thought this applies to government and home life.

Just wondering --- when was the last time we had righteous people in authority?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

I should have also included business in my response.

Unfortunately, it has been a LONG time. I know for local government and business you can tell a difference with people's heart and guidance.
